A South Africa Silver (in colour) threepence 3d

George 1941.

It seems to be an exact replica to the Britsh silver threepence only this is from S.A.

How would you sort out coins from the colonies?

I have a number of coins from the colonies and i am trying to sort them out.

If they have the British pence on them would you put them in with other British coins or would you put them with coins from that country?

This is driving me mad!!!! :(

Thanks for your help in advance :D

I split the coins out by country listed on the coin. Since then you can show the history of the country under different governments.

One of my favorite seres of coins from "South Africa" are the South African Republic - Zuid-Afrikaansche Republiek (ZAR coins).

Front of these coins look like the Krugerrand. Series was made from 1892 to 1898. There was a single coin made in 1899. The front of the coin is my avatar.

I would put up some images but I can't figure out how to add a photo to a post.

You have to browse for it and attach it.

I like the ZAR coins from the period you speak of. I have an 1892 document signed by President Kruger and a dsplay box of circulated 1890s coins that were brought back by a Scottish soldier who was there during the 2nd Boer war.

Here are the ZAR coins that I have:

Some of the silver looks very brassy. Are they perhaps forgeries or is it just the images?

Chris,

Hmmm....interesting question.

Which ones are you questioning?

So we can work on getting better images.

The 1892 6d, 2s and 2/6 look brassy. Could just be the light. forgeries of those are not unheard of but are probably not as common as the real things.
