samclab Posted May 4, 2004 Posted May 4, 2004 I got two presidential give way coins from my grandma. the two 1956-d wheat pennies ar surounded with a half inch alumanum(spelled rong) lining with "KEEP ME AND NEVER GO BROKE" with a 4 leaf clover on the front and on the back, 1 coin says " I LIKE IKE" and the other says "STEVENSON KEFAUVER" I'm guess more people liked Ike.lol I have never see anything like these before and was just wondering if any one knew anything about them? thanks, sam. kuhli Posted May 4, 2004 Posted May 4, 2004 These are called "encased cents", and there are many, many varieties. The coin is pressed into the outer aluminum ring, which is stamped with advertising. There are a couple of "styles", one being the normal circular ring, and another being a horseshoe shape. The majority of them (both styles) will have the advertising/slogan on one side, while the other side often has the "keep me and never go broke" or "keep me for good luck" phrases. eBay (US) actually has a separate category for these things (encased coins).
