Guest peterr Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 Hi guysI'm new here and my girlfriend has just produced a coin from her childhood:Dated 1730, slightly smaller than a new £1 coin, very dark so probably not silver and not milled round the edgesOn the date side it has a large V with an "o" looped through the left branch and a "c" through the right. On the other it has what looks like the english lion rampant, in a shield topped with 3 roses? Its damaged so probably not valuable but any clues would be much appreciatedPeter Quote
Chris Perkins Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 Interlinked VOC usually indicates Dutch East Indies. Google along those lines! They are very common and with damage it is most likely to be just an old piece of copper. Quote
Guest peterr Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 Thanks very much!It looks like its a Duit, althoughWikipedia seems to think they were not minted till 1735!!!Mystery solved! Quote
