jimbo Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 Hello All I am new to this forum and also new to coin collecting so I was hoping, because you guys are so knowledgeable if you could help me. I have what certainly loos loke a George III 1819 Half crown, the problem I have is that it is 32mm in diamater but it only weighs 9gramms instead of 14, it has got some wear on it but it feels really light, do you think it is a fake.? Thanks Quote
Chris Perkins Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 Does it have any brass or copper colours coming through? Geo III halfcrowns were very widely forged (as were most Geo III coins) so it probably is a forgery. Quote
jimbo Posted December 3, 2008 Author Posted December 3, 2008 Thank you for your answer, I cannot see any copper or brass coming through althrough the coin is dirty, I have sent a photo to see if this helps. thanks Quote
Chris Perkins Posted December 3, 2008 Posted December 3, 2008 That's a very tiny image. Does appear a bit yellower than it should be. Quote
