Guest Panterex Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 I have a ZUID AFRIKAANSCHE REPUBLIEK 2 1/2 SHILLINGS dated 1896there is the picture: And this medal / medallion, I'll post the pictures at my next post, cos i run out of space hereimages on both sides are identical, so what is it? Quote
Chris Perkins Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 It looks like it's been made by someone from a South African coin. With any writing smoothed off. It also looks very German in shape, I don't know the significance of that.I'm quite keen on ZAR things and have some Boer war related items and a document signed by president Kruger. One of my customers is also a great great grand nephew of the president of the Orange Free State! I'll give you a tenner for it (to keep). Quote
Guest Panterex Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 Chris, thnx a million for your help!I thought, it was handmade, but wasn't sure, cos those cuts arn't parallel to each other. and cos of it shape it's not a perfect sqare, but it could be also because of age...anyway, thnx a million once again!I'll give you a tenner for it (to keep).Tenner for what? a coin or medallion? In anyway, it is not for sale, I'm sorry man, but this one is one of a kind in my collection...But I do have 129 of HALF PENNY though (if you interested ) Quote
Chris Perkins Posted August 28, 2008 Posted August 28, 2008 I meant a tenner for your South African 'Iron Cross'!If they're all boring average 20th century halfpennies then you can keep them. Quote
