Guest Vlad Posted February 16, 2008 Posted February 16, 2008 I have a question that you might be able to help me. I came across an 1817 George III 1/2 crown, but it seems to be struck in bronze (not sterling). Also the position of the head is slightly off (George's nose points to the middle of the 'A', not above the 'A' as in most coin. The obverse is also very lightly skewed. Any ideas? Can it be a pattern piece? Scans: http://s77.photobucket.com/albums/j73/sxc5...20half%20crown/Thank you,Vlad Quote
Chris Perkins Posted February 16, 2008 Posted February 16, 2008 It's a forgery which would have been silvered when new. Brass GeoIII halfcrown forgeries are pretty common. Quote
