South Africa Farthing Design

All,

Does anyone know what plant the cape sparrows are perched on in the design

of a South African farthing, I have looked but without success!!

I think it is the sweet thorn it grows extensively all over South Africa and is familiar to all South Africans for its many medicinal and other uses. It has a round crown, black branches, trunk, sprays of yellow pompom flowers and characteristic long white thorns.
