Guest Lindsay Morrison Posted March 18, 2006 Posted March 18, 2006 Hi everyone. My Dad found a coin and we're interested to know what it is. Its 3cm across. On the front it has a picture of a man with leaves on his head and the writing reads GERORGIUS III DEI GRATIA and a date which is 1819. On the back it has a coat of arms and writing which reads REX TID DEF then BRITANNIARUM. Be grateful if anyone could identify it. Thankyou, Lindsay Quote
mint_mark Posted March 19, 2006 Posted March 19, 2006 The design you describe sounds like a half crown of George III, from 1819.These coins did get counterfeited a bit, so it could be one of those. What sort of metal is it? Silver or brass? Quote
