john brannen Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago Hello, I recently bought an almost uncirculated 1862 uk penny and when inspecting it -noticed that the R in Victoria wasn't quite right. It had no lower serifs and is struck over an R with a shorter downstroke. On looking for further coins of the same type -I could only see one which was sold by London Coins on 5/6/22 in Auction 177 Lot 1846 who described the anomoly as very clear and very unusual ! This coin is an 'unlisted variety' by both Freeman and Gouby and I just wondered if there is anyone else in this forum that has seen this particular anomoly ? Also, should I be informing anyone that this is a second coin of this type to be found....? Thanks JB ps I tried to upload a fuller picture of this coin but there seems to be restrictions.... Quote
