Guest loz Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 Hey Hey,I was just wondering whether anyone could help me to Identify a few coins I have found, I know nothing about coins at all I just found some whilst renovating an old grade 2 listed house. Heres the description-two coins look like made of copper, 1.5cm approx, one side says carolvs.a. carolo with a bust of a guy. the other says BRITAN something IA. With a guy sat on something. both 1675.15 coins much worse condition, feel like lead, various writing- GWI, SW, FR. on other side a bust. all 1682. look crudely made perhaps pressed?I can't find much on google but I'm not awsome on the surfing front.Would be really interested to find out the names of the coins and so on.CheersLoz Quote
smudge Posted September 20, 2005 Posted September 20, 2005 Hi Loz Are you sure about the diameters? If they are 2cm, then you probably have x2 Charles 11 copper farthings. The ones that feel like lead could be the tin farthings. ( Have they got a copper plug in them, usually quite small and it goes right through the coin?). Price would greatly depend on the condition. The dates on the tin farthings are usually on the edge of the coin. Quote
Guest Guest Posted October 5, 2005 Posted October 5, 2005 Cheers, your right about the farthings, the others I found out were traders tolkens (apparently, there was some metal crisis at that time so coins were made out of less precious metals locally and exchanged instead) Interesting stuff when you start looking into it...Cheers for your help.
