Guest Carolineanne Posted June 29, 2005 Posted June 29, 2005 Hi, i'm looking for any information on a coin dated 1795. It's copper and a little larger than a 2p coin. On the front is Brittania with something in welsh around the rim. On the back is 'Iestyn ap Gwrgan Tywysog Morganwg 1091' - I have found out that Iestyn ap Gwrgan was the last ruler of an independent Morgannwg from 1081 to 1091 It's been in my possession for a long time and would really like to know more about it and what it might be worth, if anything. Geoff T Posted June 30, 2005 Posted June 30, 2005 On the back is 'Iestyn ap Gwrgan Tywysog Morganwg 1091' - I have found out that Iestyn ap Gwrgan was the last ruler of an independent Morgannwg from 1081 to 1091 That would make sense. The Welsh means "Iestyn son of Gwrgan Prince Morganwg 1091". Beyond that I'm afraid I can't be of much help, although I this sounds more like a medal that a coin.Diolch yn fawr - Geoff Quote
