Geoff T Posted June 20, 2005 Posted June 20, 2005 Hi - i've just found the following coins and wondered whether someone might provide impartial advice/approx as to their value or non-value as it might be.- Two Shillings silver coin 1966 - Two Shillings silver coin 1953 - 10 pence coin 1969 with the inscription "New Pence" - 5 Pence coin 1978 with the inscription "New Pence" Thanks v.much I'm afraid it's non-value. The 1953 florin (2 shillings) might fetch a couple of quid if it's in a high grade, but the 1966 is very common and the two decimal coins are just the old, larger style ones which were introduced to be the same size as and therefore interchangable with the shilling and florin. In top grade you're looking at about 50p for each.A bank will give you face value for all of these coins. BTW, none of them is silver - they're all cupro-nickel. Silver went out for circulating currency in 1947.Hope this is useful - Geoff Quote
Guest Baki Posted June 20, 2005 Posted June 20, 2005 Oh well...worth a try...thanks for your help though. Quote

Chris Perkins Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 I exchanged old 5p's and 10p's for new ones the other year. They'll also take predecimal 'Silver' coins but only by special arrangement, at certain branches and if you have a large amount (like £100 worth). Quote
