Guest Louise Posted April 13, 2005 Posted April 13, 2005 Chris,I listened with interest to the show on # Counties Radio and wondered if you would help me. The coin I was given 35 years ago and I believe it is a Ducat of Franz Joseph 1 of Austria 1915. I would like to sell this but have no idea where to go or how to price it. It is in a gold mount.Thank you very much for your timeRegardsLouise Quote
Unknown Posted April 13, 2005 Posted April 13, 2005 Louise, the World Coins catalog sets its value to bullion value (it is gold) +10% for the normal restrike. The proof restrike is marked at $50... around £26... This is just a catalog, how correct it is, I don't know, but I am sure Chris, when he comes back, will be able to give you his expert opinion, as I am not an expert by a long shot. Quote
Chris Perkins Posted April 14, 2005 Posted April 14, 2005 Hello Louise,Yes, Unknown (I prefer to call him Juan) is correct. It's a bullion coin, certainly after being in a mount and used as jewellery (even if it's hardly been worn, the mount will leave tell tale marks on the coin meaning that collectors won't be too interested unfortunately). You are welcome to arrange either over PM or email to send me the coin and I'd be pleased to weight it and the mount and offer the current bullion value.
