kuhli Posted December 30, 2004 Posted December 30, 2004 How do you tell the difference?? I have 2 of them. One is obviously the bright finish. The other one is darker, but how can I tell if that is just toning/tarnishing, or if it is mint darkened?? Quote
Master Jmd Posted December 30, 2004 Posted December 30, 2004 Do you have any other farthings between 1898 and 1917? If you do, hold it up to your darker 1918 one. You may notice that the 1918 farthing just has normal toning, the darkened farthings are generally quite darker than normally toned farthings... Quote
Chris Perkins Posted December 30, 2004 Posted December 30, 2004 It's difficult to tell with GVF or below somtimes. If the toned coin was darkened it should have traces of black toning in and around the lower areas (usually). Quote
