  4. hi,it`s been awhile since i posted anything,i have`nt run away from coins just yet,my library of books consisted of 2 collectors`coins 2011 & 2013,british coins market values 2012,and 2 small books from 79/80 which are in the roof space, but saying that i picked up another book yesterday, coin collecting as a hobby by c.c chamberlain and burton hobson.they have me down to a T i.e jackdaw were as i would have classed myself as a magpie.but to be a magpie it`s all shinny stuff like silver which i have very little of yet.so with that said back to the farthings,i have which i need help with and i will keep this short. 1821 double arrow head top arrow in rim teeth. 1840 doubling first 3 letters of victoria & last 3 letters of gratia, 7 a good few teeth bottom left at victoria. 1845 all date doubled or recut but looks like 1/I. 1860 BRITT:REG.F.D no colon or stop after D,to colon dot after britt just make it out at x60. 1860 this is a ? A in farthing recut with an unbarred A or inverted V. 1872 3 7`s one over the other. 1875-H another ? date doubled with the 7 and n of farthing tripled. that`s it for present,i have joined photobucket, but i`ll need tips with taking photo`s. thanks shamo...

    1938 penny

It's hard to tell from the photo, but the whole of the right side of the eight appears to have sustained damage. The resulting impact has squashed and spread the metal to give the impression of something more interesting than just a whack. That's all I think it is though. I agree - it looks like circulation damage. thanks accumulator & peckris for your reply,i agree the photo is not the best,i have had a closer look mag at 200 and tryed to do abit of cleaning, not much, and to me it looks to be a double 8 with the top one being damaged.it's 1 am i'll sort the photo's and post them later. p.s i could be eating my hat. thanks again shamo. good morning, or is it, i feel like c.s.i.,looking at the photo's this morning the 8 took a blow across the middle, and the first bit of metal fell off at the top of the 8, and the blow left a crack running length ways down the side of the 8,and came a way later.i'm not finished yet i still think it's a double 8, the spread of the metal is not adding up.i'm still having trouble sizing and editing photo's, i,ll try and find someone to help with this thanks. p.s the hat could be getting bigger after this

  8. You've lost me shamo! What do you mean by noted? In the 19th edition collectors coins for Ireland, example(noted at auction 1999)and just(noted 1999),does this mean you take them to auction.I'm not looking to sell not any time soon, because i know there's no value,I'm a collector and i know there's a lot of decimal coins out there,I have to wonder if it would be to soon, maybe keep them for the kids, but by doing that it is unfair to other collector's,and if i do it now it give ebayer's a chance to make a quick pound or try to. Thanks Chris, I fell i have to say sorry for for my statment about ebayer's, It was not directed at all ebayer's just the handful were there price's are of the wall.I don't mind paying a bit over the odds for a coin. LOL. This just means the author of the book has looked at various auction 'realised prices' and "noted" (i.e. "noticed", "saw") that some were worth quoting in his book!

  12. These appear to be examples of filled dies, something which is not uncommon. During the minting process dies can become partially filled with extraneous material, which causes part of the design to be missed when the blank is struck. On 20th century pennies, colon dots are the most common element of the design to be affected in this way. Hi all, thanks Accumulator for input so quickly,i'm not only mew to coins but all so the computer, and trying to photo coins to,it was only when i attached the photos i realised the 3D was there as well,it tock 3 hours to find them and size them.So if i could be so bold i have an 1886 penny which on the second 8 has been double striked i think to the right of it,there's a bit of dirt in the top of the 8 should i try to remove it, or leave well alone. I'll try to attach a photo again if you would like to take a look and give me your thoughts on it.Thank you again shamo. It's the first 8 not the second 8 sorry. Here's photo of the 8, is it doubled all vies welcomed.ThanksCopy of 1886 penny.bmp

  17. Hello.I was wondering if anyone has came across this?George the VI brass 3pence piece with the overlapping metal starting at the R in BR,It makes the R look like its doubled on the right hand side, the fold starts at the bottom of the R and runs to a rim bead, sorry no photo at present but I hope to post one as soon as I am able to rearrange settings in order to reduce size of photo to 150k. With Thanks.Shamo.
