  1. Thanks for that and I see what you mean. Is this just an error of some kind or wear on my coin? The coin is not generally worn and the left side of the 8 does go down in a curve like there is another numeral.
  2. Is this an overstrike 8 over 6? This is a fine coin, the 8 looks odd but would like an opinion as to whether this is an overstrike. Cheers!
  3. Thank for that everyone. I can't believe that guy selling that coin, I wish I had his cheek! Never mind. Does anyone know f a book or site which deals with error coins (English, not American) as this is interesting. Cheers!
  4. I have a 1935 'rocking horse' crown. The edge inscription is 'upside down'. Is this the error mentioned in Spink?
  5. This a hammered coin, found, I believe in East Anglia. 20mm. It is very slightly mis-shapen and a little dark, hence I have lightened the picture as my scanner likes neither of those things. Can anyone id it for me? Cheers Sorry cannot get picture to attach, can anyone help?
  6. This is a very nice 'Galley halfpenny' or Venetian Soldino. I know it isn't strictly British, but they did circulate here! Can anyone tell me which Doge it is? Cheers
  7. I am surprised they risked it, as far as I know the penalties were pretty severe. Isn't that why they started making long cross pennies, to stop people shaving round the edges?
  8. Cheers for that, I'll look it up. Still quite nice, but it is a shame that people liked silver and chopped these things up! Ah well, at least I know I was in the right area.
  9. Hello! I have a hammered coin which I have narrowed down to I think Henry vi, (through the mint mark) but I lack the detailed reference works to let me know what type it is. Am I correct, and can anyone let me know what it is exactly and its rarity? It is 18mm
