thanks, ive just ordered the base metal one from amazon, very good price compared to what spinks are charging for thier roman coin books. again thanks I have also just bought a £2 coin with a missprint on it, it is circulated not sure of grading, the " two pounds" is half missing as it was printed too far down the outside of the coin, any idea how much i should have paid for it, want to know if i have again been ripped off?

This is a setup for Chris, the owner of Rotographic Publications but I'll beat him to it. The books you want are Roman Silver Coins and Roman Base Metal Coins (see top of the page). I have found both very useful. As I have just bought a batch of uncleaned Roman coins myself, I would be interested to know why you found yours so bad. Mine were okay, but nothing spectacular. I guess the fun is in cleaning them up and identifying them, but in my case this is likely to take some time. As far as American coins are concerned, there are a number of collectors from across the pond on this website, and no doubt when the sun catches up with them, they will help you out. thanks for the quick reply, out of the 50 coins only about 30 had any markings on the other 20 were completely blank, out of the 30 only half had any sort of writting on them although some of them did have other good detail to them, I have so far managed to identify 5 of them but some are just 1/2s of coins, do you know of any good websites for identifying these coins? which buyer did you buy your coins from?

Hi ive been collecting coins since i was 12, now 34, although not actively since i was 18, i have decided to get back into it, i want to concentrate on 3 areas; 19th and 20th century American coinage - have quite a few as uncle from America left me his collection Brittish £2 coins Roman Coins I recently bough 50 uncleaned roman coins from ebay but they were terrible and want to avoid being ripped off in the future, also how do you tell a copy from a real coin? what is the best book for me to buy on collecting roman coins that will help me get started and help me to identify coins. Any links to helpful websites would be appreciated too. Thanks in Advance Carl.
