  1. Here is a better photo of the 1860 penny , clearly showing a faint outline of the top of the 1st ‘t’ in ‘ BRITT ‘
  2. Here is a clearer photo of the 1864 wide date penny ….thanks for your advice …..much appreciated
  3. How rare is the 1905 Penny with a small zero ? I recently checked all my 1905 pennies of about 100 in number and came across three , which suggests to me that it probably isn’t a rare variety . What do other members think ? The polished 1905 penny at the bottom of the photo appears to have an open ‘9’ within the date , is this a known variety ?
  4. A poor quality 1860 penny with part of the top of the ‘t’ missing in ‘ Britt’ . Comments welcomed
  5. Here is a photo of a poor quality 1864 penny with a wide date , is this a known variety and if so how rare is it ?
  6. Is there a possible connection between my raised dot 1911 penny with your raised dot 1919 penny ? Both dots are a similar size and appear to be in the same place adjacent to the date . Was the Royal Mint experimenting with die wear before the minting of the 1912H penny ?
  7. On closer examination, I would agree with both comments that sometime in the past some extraneous metal adhered to the surface of the coin . I don’t have access to the book by Freeman about British Penny varieties and given it could be a 9+L 1880 penny variety , has anyone an idea of its possible value please ?
  8. An unusual 1945 penny with an intriguing. ‘ elongated curved tooth ‘ below the 5 in the date . It seems to be part of the original coin and doesn’t appear to have been added on at a later date , …is it part of a number?
  9. Hello there , I would like to ask the question ,is this a 1880 penny variety , Freeman 101dies 9 + L ? There appears to be a raised dot to the right of the date .
  10. Maybe so, but there is wear on the raised dot similar to both the date alongside it and to the similar size official minted dots and lettering on the other side of the coin
  11. I can’t see any obvious damage to the coin , the top of the number 9 and the top of the number 6 seem to be slightly closer to the Britannia base than in an ordinary 1962 penny . I intend to load up some more photos soon
  12. Uploaded here is a possible 1962 penny variation , with the number 9 in the date having a truncated tail , there appears to be no tampering or altering of the number, opinions would be appreciated
