    tokens

Agreed! I seem to recall looking up what some of the more obscure trades actually were!

    Might be of interest

Saw this article, bit of a result for the guy cleaning out his granfather's house: http://www.messynessychic.com/2013/05/01/found-secret-time-capsule-safe-unlocked-in-a-tennessee-farmhouse/ Apologies if it's been on here before.
  3. Ta! Yeah, I suppose it's like any other hobby, pursue it at your own level. The coins pictured on the white sheets have been (sorta, by my standards) catalogued. Country of origin, coin type and year, with the exception of the two sheets showing the tokens and oddities. Just couldn't find some of them. The remainder of my collection is mostly foreign and a few covers (the full Westminster Golden Jubilee collection etc. Not my sorta thing, just come across them over the years) I'll add pics of them to the gallery once they're sorted into presentable groupings. Cheers!
  4. Hello again! I last logged in over seven years ago. Never really been much of a fast mover. My coin collection has grown quite a lot since then, but I've been very passive in building it, buying them when I come across them rather than actively seeking any additions. If I'm honest, my fiercest passions lay elsewhere, however I have retained a strong layman's interest in coins. I enjoy the tangible connection to the past you feel when holding something hundreds of years old. I don't think there are any 'prize pieces' among the coins I have. I have one of the dateless "mule" 20 pence coins which is probably the one of greatest value, however I'm not really interested in the worth, I enjoy the designs and -relative- rarity of them. Even any that would potentially be worth something are most likely in a near un-sellable grade. I dunno. Anyway, I finally got round to taking some photos today, probably about two-thirds of my collection, I doubt there's anything to greatly excite any of you, however there may be some pleasure in having a browse, comments on anything unusual or interesting would be greatly appreciated I've tried some vaguely relevant grouping (farthings together, pennies together etc.) and the number key is fairly obvious 'A' is the front, 'B' is the back, retaining the same position in the photo. Most of the coins are British or Colonial, but there is some foreign as well, especially in the large unsorted pics at the start of the album. I thought I'd link to the album rather than try and post here as there is a large number of pics. Anyway, as I said, hopefully it'll make for a vaguely distracting browse. Here's the link: http://s352.photobucket.com/user/perkin2000/library/coins Sorry for such a long winded post after such an absence, I thought it better to essentially re-introduce myself rather than just post-and-run as seems to happen so often on forums. Thanks, Richard.

    Hello all.

Thank you all very much for such a warm welcome. I spent most of today researching the (approximate) age and origin of the coins I was given. British, Egyption, Italian, German, Spanish, Indian, USA, Canadian, Belgium, far eastern, Portugal, Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland and quite a few others. Mostly from the 19th century-early 20th. Just what I've done today is enough to mentally melt me. I don't know how you good people manage to reatin such knowledge. To say I'm impressed is an understatement. If it's of any interest, I'll try and post a full listing. It'll probably be text rather than photos. Is that OK? Anyway, again, thanks for the welcome, muchly appreciated. I'm off to relax with a bottle of whisky.

    Hello all.

Hello. My real name isn't Perkin/Perkins. It's actually a nickname I've had for so long that many people just call me that. Unintentional similarity, I'll happily change my username if it'll be a problem. <<<<<Please accept my ninja of apology.

    Hello all.

Hello there. Firstly, I must thank the moderator of the forum for activating my account so rapidly, secondly I would like to say hello to you all in the general sense. I am very, very new to the world of coin collecting. My collection went from zero to approximately 200 within the last week. An elderly family friend was about to throw out(!!!) 200 odd old coins when she asked me if I wanted them. In the past I've made a few quid from Amazon/Ebay sales, and I'm ashamed to admit my materialistic, somewhat mercenary nature was instantly aroused. However, in just this short period of time, I've completely fallen in love with these coins. The look, feel, obscutirty and history of these things gripped me instantly. In the short time I've had them, I have missed many hours sleep staying up late into the night looking them up online and in the few reference books my local library had. It fascinates me the way each coin seems to have a history of its own. I have catalogued them in a very basic form so far, by age, country or failing that, continent. I have no idea of their worth, but from my research so far, it doesn't appear to be much. I'd say probably 60-70 of the coins are of British origin. Ranging in date from 1757-1957. I don't know even half their original numeric value or names, so I wont embarass myself trying to list them at the moment. A couple of the books I took out from the library seem to be useful, basic, beginners stuff. So, if anyone here is interested, I might try and post a full listing in the next few days/weeks. (My internet connection is somewhat sporadic at the mo, having just moved from East Sussex to the Surrey/Kent border. Although I'm NOWHERE near as posh as that makes me sound.) Anyway, thanks for reading, nice to meet you all!
