How a metal detector can help your hobby

thanks for the advice. LOL my metal detector is a radio shack! I'm gonna have to start saving up for one than. Ill look around the pawn shops downtown for a Whites, since, I think at least, thats radioshack is the only place that sels metal detectors around me.lol
  5. My oldest us coin, thats is not in my dads collection is a 1896 indian head penny in terrible condition. I bought it at a flea market for like a quarter. but its the only indian head I have.
  6. I would like to start collecting british and other monarchy posessing country's coins but, just like master j.m.d. coins from countries other than canada and a few from mexico I can get very easy. I like how other countries have more diverse coinage, meaning that in other countries they have more than like a picture of the king, queen, president of ruller of that particular country at that time. like I sometimes get coins from south america and they usually have pictures from nature, that is also true with paper money, I have a few bills from the bahamas and canada with wonderfull pictures ofbeautiful scenary. I think they look better than american money. I'm more intrested in the older coinage, but I can rarely find a coin of any kind(1cent, 5cent, 25cent) from before 1965. and I have never gotten a Mercury dime from a place other than a store. so it makes it pretty exspensive to collect. I like how more of the foriegn coins have more history, but I like america's comemorative state hood quarters, and soon to be Presidential dollars, in witch they will realese 4 golden dollars a year with us presidents in the order they where president.
  7. thanks for the info! last night I tried to find them on ebay and couldn't find anything. I tried to look up every thing I could think up because I didn't know what they where called.lol thanks.
  8. I got two presidential give way coins from my grandma. the two 1956-d wheat pennies ar surounded with a half inch alumanum(spelled rong) lining with "KEEP ME AND NEVER GO BROKE" with a 4 leaf clover on the front and on the back, 1 coin says " I LIKE IKE" and the other says "STEVENSON KEFAUVER" I'm guess more people liked Ike.lol I have never see anything like these before and was just wondering if any one knew anything about them? thanks, sam.
  9. I think my oldest coin is a 1735 coin. it is quite worn but on the fron I can read "geurgivas." on the left side of the figure and ether "II.RE X." or one of the "I" is a "T" I can't tell. and on the back on the left "britan" and on the right "nia" and in the bottom of the midel is says the date 1735. I'm not shure how much the coin was used for, Its about the sie of a US quarter. my next oldest british coin is a 1874 large penny. On the front I can only read the date at the bottom and the letters "pe" and cane faintly see "nny" but on the back I can clearly read "victoria d:g." on the left and "britt:reg:f:d: on the right. then I have three large pennies dating 1918, 1929 and 1937, they are all in pretty good condition on the 1918 there is alot of wear on the face and mid torso and the bust on the back of the coin has no beard, on the 1929 coin has almost no wear, and on the 1937 there is a little wear arounf the light house, not shure if thats what it is and a little wear on the shield. I also have a worn 1920 half penny and a 1928 half penny with little wear. I was just wondering if you guys could help me mainly with the first coin I mentioned but also help me with the prices of the other coins. thanks.

How a metal detector can help your hobby

what kind of detectores do you have? I have one but it deosn't work too good. I was looking for stuff in my back yard and couldn't find anything, so I decided to just dig aound and I hit a big metal bath tub about 4 feet down, so I dug aound it and pulled it out and inder the tum was a lot of newspapers from right after the 1906 earth quake here in san francisco. there where also a few old pots and wiskey bottels made from teracota, come old silver and copper wear, some old iron and tin toy soldiers, cap guns, bullets, a toy cannon and a few old coins. all I can find with my metal detecore is like tin foil that is berried a few inches down or rusty nails.

    Why...

I collect for fun and tridition.
  13. I used to sbuy my coins from this little shop by my house that sold alot of the coins I needed(pre 1960's us coins) for farely cheap I could get like 30 to 40 pre50's pennies or winged liberty head dimes for under $10. but lately it has been closed so I have had to go to a shop that sells coins for way more. like a 1945-s winged liberty head dime for $65, when I could get the same coin in better condition at my old shop for less than 50 cents. so now I don't really buy coins too often. I have been enhereting coind from my grandmans sister who passed away a few months ago, she collected alot of American, Canadian and Carabian coins.
  14. I was just wondering if any one did. I'm from San francisco, Californian and I have a ide say big, but then again I havent seen any other collections, collection of american coins. I also have international coins from, Mexico, Canada, and just a few coins from diffrent parts of Asian, Europe, Africa, South America and 1 coin from Australia. I am mostly focussed on U.S. coins but am thinking about expanding my collection.
