  1. Haha... il strive to be an expert n fakes ;-)
  2. Just stumbledon this topic, I picked up this 1869 coin from a coin and stamp fair a few weeks ago, has got me wondering now, paid £40, was described as fine but polished, I cant make up my mind if its fake or not, i know its relativly low grade, but £40, is £40. Ive recently been bitten by the coin bug again, but im seriously thinking of stopping, all these fakes and worse, a lot of sellers are not even aware there selling fakes :-(

    Hammered coin?

yeah, i tend to agree, ive been looking at pictures, although this one is battered, its to round and uniform.

    Hammered coin?

i baught this coin for a £25 at a boot sell, wasnt actually sold as a coin but a collection of scrap silver coming to 76 gramms, this coin was amongst it, i know next to nothing about hammered coins although a little about modern milled, the kings head seems to be missing (worn). how old is it (if in fact its a coin at all)
  5. yeah, thanks, will do, sent an email with pictures of coin to London Coins a couple of days ago to see if they will accept it for auction in March, still waiting for reply.
  6. will get a photo editor on and mark the band an ear out, see if i can emhance it at all.
  7. Thanks for these close ups, im really starting to lean towards 3rd head, the hair on the 4th head is very triangular below hair band, not so tringular on my coin, hair also seems to come down further on my coin and on 3rd head, frustratingly im not %100 convinced either.
  8. 1979 no die number, and yeah your correct theres a rare one that has the 3rd head.
  9. Cant remember now, but showed four type heads, coins were mint condition but showed the differences. but as mycoin is worn quite badly its hard to tell.
  10. Trying to identify type head on this shilling, been looking and looking and still torn between 4th and 3rd head. found a good web site to compare but stil cant make my mind up. Would really appreciate some opinions :-)
  11. To be honest, the internet wasnt around then, so never got the chance to check if it was rare or not, and collecting them was never money, date or rareity motivated, i was a child and they were either gifts, finds or swaps at school. so although i knew the date at the time, the significants of it was wasted on me, i only probably only ever owned bout 30 coins max, even at the height of my intrest, i remember i did have a two pence piece (modern) with a blank back, thatsthe only one that sticks in my mind, and unfortunatly is not in the tin, i probably swapped it for a star wars figure...lol..
  12. I doubt il be able to find a private buyer, and id definatly never sell it on ebay, ok to sell stuff for £20-£30, but heard so many horror stories concerning paypal, i think Auction would be safest and easiest thing to do, read london coins terms they only charge 10%, unless theres hidden fees.
  13. Bit more than i thought, coin of the uk got it listed for £700 in fine...might possbly tempt me to send of for auction..thanks for the opinion on grading both of you. Just out of intrest though, how much would it cost to slab? any company.
