Shall we set up a 'More Farthings' thread!?

That would be great, I was going to suggest the same thing.

I feel - the "More Pennies" (and I know Pennies are of greater interest than Farthings and Half Pennies to many) thread has been somewhat side tracked with (really interesting) non Penny posts !

I'll need to have for look at a picture of the 1851 d over d sideways (have an E over E sideways on a Half Farthing but not seen a D over D )

Many thanks for sharing Terry, what a super error to find - very impressed !

Many thanks Terry, I've never seen that 1856 , what a find (challenge to find another), and what a bad day at the Mint !

Obviously someone missed the large sign hanging outside ... "Her Majesty Queen Victoria"

Should have gone to Olde World Specsavers !

 Very Best Regards

Lovely delivery this morning, F115 1882 H penny with a bit of luster still visable.

Edit - it seems like my photos arent loading for some reason. They are within the size range, but alas they will not show!

Compared both of my 1866s yesterday,  and they seem to have the same dot near the C, is that unusual?

Thanks in advance.

Very common - in fact ‘normal’  on obverse 6 pennies in better condition, must have been present on at least one master die. It was likely featured on a ‘C’ punch  used in die preparation, size /depth a little variable with the strike.

Hi,

Arrived earlier today 1860 Penny

Which I think this is a circulated BP 1860 Nf (F + d)

I can see part of the upper T in the linear circle and the remains of a foot sticking out in the RHS of the leg of the T. The C has been doubled and the O repaired

Best Regards

Hi and here are three more images from the obverse

I cleared as best I can the gunk out of the B in Britt , but there is something behind it

The R in Britt is also a bit off and (more usually) repair on the first T and G in D G along with doubling on the D

Great to get your thoughts !

Best Regards

Just standard worn dies and partial letter repairs that has cropped up in many threads on here over the last few weeks, I'm afraid. Very common in the Victoria series and though interesting, not really worth any great premium...

Hi Richard, I saw it - don't know what it went for . I had a couple of my typical "low" bids on at Noonan's, but I don't think I won anything.

Very Best Regards

Hi Martin, I think you're right. Still pleased with it and I'll need to keep an eye out for an affordable T over T, in better condition it (per the picture in the Bronze Penny)

Having prodded the B in britt with a wooden cocktail stick to dislodge the gunk its looking "normal" (there is a repair at the back of the downstroke).

Similarly there is / was something under the R though, possibly part of another R.

I don't think I'll resort to clamping it in a workbench and using a car wash pressure spray to completely clean it (as a You Tuber recently demonstrated on George VI pennies)

Very Best Regards

Oh....since i used to be outbidded at Noonans, i didn't pay too much attention to the auction.  But i had a brief look that lot before and thought if the 44 penny was cleaned...not noticed the DFF😪

Their estimates are absurd. For most coins, the hammer price is on average double the top estimate.

Low estimates also help ensure the lots sell. Having to relist the lots at a lower estimate in the next sale is a pain in the ass for an auctioneer, and means the same lot twice, which raises the question in a buyers mind as to what was wrong with the coin for it not to sell. .

a dot next to 1 for example. Can't find any reference to that as a possible error.

It looks more like a spot of corrosion to me than a proper dot ?

I recently finished cataloguing someone's excellent Victorian Copper Penny collection and, as a result, felt that I was now in a position to have a go at listing the 1843 varieties which I know of. It may not be a complete list, but I think it will be pretty close. I now know of seven different types of 1843 penny, and I have summarised these into a one page jpeg image which I now attach. The actual image on my own computer is over 6 times the size of this attachment, so if anyone wants a copy of the full image then please PM me.

I thought that this may be of interest to some other members (and so did Jerry), as I am unaware that anyone has ever tried to do this with a rarer date in the YH series.
