Was thinking about collecting these for my son and was wondering what the general prices are? Obviously with me not being in the UK it would be difficult to obtain them from change.

I've seen the complete set (29 coins) and so was wanting to ask what would you generally pay for the whole lot right now?

I've seen the whole set for sale at £82.50 here. It seems extravagant for what is essentially £14.50 in face value.

Still available from the mint @ £89.50 or £2.99 each

A silly price but most things from the Mint are these days.

They don't seem cheap. Problem is either they are from change that someone has collected or from the mint. The mint ones people will want back what they paid and £70 is too much.

To be honest, if I wanted a set (I did start collecting from change like many other people but got tired of it!) I'd wait. Unless you particularly want them now, surely after the Olympics they will be going for closer to £30-£40 which I think is a fair price?

Packaged sets on ebay have sold from £40 + postage so if you're keen I'd aim for around that.

Alternatively I wonder if picking up 6 coins here, 8 coins there might be a cheaper way to get a set? OK, you won't have the presentation pack, but they can be bought on ebay too.

Or how about the single packed coins ?. See if the seller will combine postage and bid 99p. You could get them all for £30 + post maybe? A bit of work, but cheaper than a RM set anyway!

I reckon Tom's 'a few here, a few there' route is the best way if you can't get them from change... £2 for a presi pack is robbery!

Although, if you get the aquatics one in the pack, check to see if the swimmer is drowning!

Is it an area thing? Although I've searched my wife's purse regularly, I've only come across the Archery issue up here in wild Cumbria!

If it is, its very localised! I (in Slough) have seen all of two (swimming and badminton) in circulation - but a friend in Reading has virtually completed the set!

I'm half tempted to go to the bank and get a £500 bag to see what I can find! Get a £250 bag of 20p whilst I'm at it - see if I cant find any more of my die-cracks!

The problem with that of course is that you then have to go into the bank and pay back in about £748 of loose change...

As little as that?! Nah - it would be a case of replace anything I took out, and then they can just stick it on their big scales out the back and it'll be fine!

Maybe Sluff just isnt deemed worthy of newly minted coins... Although - I was the first person in Coin News to get a 2008 shield back coin...
