Or it could be over a 3 or 5, I suppose 3 may be the sensible option, need to see what the other digits on those looked like

I was going to say 5, but now you mention it, it could be a 3 too.

Looks like a 6! Colin might be right about checking what the other digits actually look like. These ones are fairly bog standard though.

I'm goimg to go with a 6 because i can see itthrough the centre of the 4 then loops round. The beginnimg of it curves in the opposite direction to be a 3, it starts like a 6 would. The quesrion is, why a 6 in 1740, this is also an unrecorded error as far as i can see

So, what i was or am trying to say is for it to be a 3 it would have to curve from left to right, but this is curving right to left.

Is this a Mexican 1/2 Real?

Standard Catalogue of World coins lists a 1740/30 KM65 obverse having the MF mintmark.

The 2,4 and 8 Reales also has a 1740/30 overdate. No overdate found on the 1 Real

Why does it have to be any particular character? Given most of these are punched in error, it follows that the punch wasn't checked before use. i.e it could be anything, even just a short straight or curved line punch as opposed to a letter or number. There is no certainty that the digit underneath had to be genuine, or that it had to be valid elsewhere in the series. It does hint of a 6 to my mind.

OK, I know it's not milled, and I know it's not bronze or copper but.......................

.............sometimes a coin just takes your fancy - this little billon penny just appealed for the bizarre beady eyed portrait - plus a decent grade on a nice full flan, and a legend even I could read

JACOBUS REX, ARAGON

seller's pictures

1213-1276AragondenierJamesI.jpg

It's a denier of James I of Aragon 1213-1276 - Wiki entry

I honestly didn't expect to win this, but I got it for the opening bid of €20 so £20 with postage

:)

PS who here remembers Marty Feldman??

Ist a doppelthaler David of their Golden wedding anniversary. There's 2 types, not sure which this is yet, but i'm hoping ist a milled rim, the other is the normal kerbed rim

They look far more like real people, compared to most stylised royal portraits

wasn't he the one born of victoria , queen victorias oldest ofspring who started the first world war - a very bad man - also many believe the reporations from the first world war caused the second so in the end he was responsable for quite a few european deaths .

i do belive he retired in exile and live to a good old age as well - there is never any real justice is there?
