I feel maybe the reverse is a little better, but the design may be tricking me.

There is some wear on the obverse, so 'AUNC' makes no sense to me, and never does.

If there is wear, surely it hasn't been circulated, and if there isn't, it hasn't???

Surely it's just binary?

Sorry I meant to say GEF/AUNC as an overall condition/grade did not mean that the Rev was GEF and the Obv was AUNC🤔

Another arrival today quite common, but a better example than I already have 😊

My own take on that is that there may not be any wear, but the slightest sign of rubbing, or unevenness in the lustre, could be interpreted as AUNC - if a coin has been handled once or twice, does that count as circulation? Discuss...

Ah-there is that 'raised rim' thing I've mentioned before, where the milling raises up over the flat rim.

I have very limited knowledge/ experience of milled edges- I stopped my sixpence and shilling collection years ago.

You see, I see that sharp strip, and straightway get the feeling of this not having had any wear at all, since surely such a thin strip would be the first to wear,

and yet- the faces of the lions ( leopards on a shilling?)  ....??  Could the 'worn' faces actually be a poor strike/worn die?

Latest addition to my Charles I Halfcrown collection, this a Tower Mint type 2c, and my first Harp mint mark

Most people handle coins by their middle (or at least the 'face') rather than the edge, so I'd expect the rim to not be the first area to wear.

Those lions actually have quite good faces, especially the top left. The reverse looks to have had virtually no wear though there appears to be some to the veil and hair on the obverse.

Just out of interest what grade would everyone give that shilling ?

Lots of details but appears to be water washed or something which has made everything less clear.

A couple of upgrades arrived today. The sixpence has obviously been cleaned but the scratches are much less obvious in hand, so I shall keep it. The half crown is a simple upgrade - I find decent examples of this date harder to find.

My one came from Jerome on this forum and very pleased with it indeed. Will not need an upgrade with this one😎

A couple of newbies to report.

First up, this 1838 Shilling, which completes my Victoria YH shilling 'type' collection:

My latest coin one of the harder dates of the Edward series. All I need is a high grade 1905 florin at a good price. I live in hope. I notice that Britannia's face seems worn but in the hand it's pretty good.
