This one came in with the 1860 farthing posted earlier - 1826 Penny in pretty decent condition:

Quite pleased with this 1860 Farthing - Dies 1 and A I believe, so F496 - which came to me amongst a group of coppers at the market yesterday. A great upgrade for me.

Which market was that?

Thanks. It is that detail which persuaded me to buy it.

Wow- that makes me want to get back into sixpences.

As a type example it's better than most other strikes I've ever seen.

My local market in Barnstaple. I run a regular stall there selling coins and so people bring me their unwanted inheritances regularly. Best way I know of acquiring good coins!

what’s your favourite that you’ve picked up at the stall Paddy?

I have been considering this for last hour and can't come up with a single "best" answer - I have had so many good pick-ups. Only a couple of months ago there were 7 Wreath Crowns... Before that a group of a dozen silver Roman Denarii from Trajan onward. One of my earliest (about 15 years ago now) was a extensive collection of Victorian pennies - that really got me into serious collecting.

This is one of the more recent - Cappadoccia drachm from Ariarathes VII:

... and on the subject of other "pickups" at the market - I'll take the Fifth...

1698 halfcrown - someone at the mint was not happy with the original strike on this one; they got the portrait on it the second time around !

I think that's part of the design

That feature of the design is not always obvious due to weak striking. Not very surprisingly, it is also not present in the modified effigy. This PF66 2 pound shows the feature nicely.

I know it says "week" in the title, and I think I've been a little slack.

One of 11 of the last Years worth of Victorias.

Yes, overpriced....I think the 450 figure for a nice "66" might be alright, but to start at 650?

This Halfpenny another pick up from the market on Wednesday - 1876H.

Clearly reverse is M. Obverse I think must be 13, but I am less sure - the gaps from the leaves and head to the lettering seems to fit 13, but the reduced flattening at the base of the bust and the form of the berries in the wreath looks more like 14. Anyone got a clear answer?

Bought this a couple of months back, graded as MS65 (1813 half guinea) very proof like, there are some characteristics that it was minted from a proof die

On the occasional theme of "brought to me at market" this one came to me last Wednesday.

Syracuse 16 Letra featuring Queen Philistis dating between 260 and 216 BC during the reign of Hieron II.

Took some working out as it was entirely unidentified when it came to me! I know it is not really on trend for many people here, but just shows what is kicking around:

On trend or not Paddy I'd be happy to have that it my collection, it's beautiful. Especially the horses

Today I have spent several hours negotiating a deal with the son of a lady recently deceased to purchase the remains of her husband's collection. (Sadly the best, including all the gold, was sold a few years ago.) A lot of what I have acquired is run-of-the-mill, and much of it sadly scrap silver, but there are few nice pieces. This Bury token for the Marquis Cornwallis 1794 (D4 as it has the regular edge) was one of the nicer pieces:

... and another from the legacy is this 1896 Florin - despite the scratch in front of Victoria's nose, a good upgrade for me.

Moving into the Victorian section of my Sixpence Collection at last. With this 1898 example bought as UNC with delightful tone. What are your thoughts please. My pictures don't do it justice, looks much better in hand.
