That's a genuine one in the picture, that will mysteriously get "lost in the post" on the way to the successful bidder, I'm thinking?

(With a feedback score of 97.7, it looks decidedly iffy!)

I've seen chocolate coins with better outers than that! It actually doesn't look like a worn coin so much as a fake or an acid victim (does gold dissolve in acid?)

Gold can be dissolved in aqua regia: a mixture of nitric acid and hydrochloric acid.

Gold is not affected by most chemicals, hence it keeps it's lustre over millenia

Can be dissolved in Aqua Regia (50/50 concentrated hydrochloric and nitric acids) also soluble in mercury, which is one method of extraction from low yielding ores - mercury can then be boiled off

These lots always make me laugh, especially the blatant lie of "genuine legal tender". These coins have several things going for it:

A) Non-legal tender coins being advertised as such

A "certificate of authenticity" that is recognized by "every monetary authority" which somehow authenticates it as a "collector" product

C) The fact it is a coin with crap on it

D) A plastic case worth more than the coins itself

There is a market for this tat and long may it reign that a fool and his money are parted.

On Ebay UK we don't experience the indepth rubbish and luckily only a few newspaper adverts.However Ebay listings have developed into item after item of rubbish.

Seriously though, you can see why people list junk - if it is going to sell anywhere, it is on ebay. Before I stopped selling on ebay a few years ago I listed a fairly low grade 1882/1H 1d, say no better than nVF. It made nearly £60 despite being described as such. An 1846 1d, good fine at best, made £66 despite my feeling embarassed to even consider listing it. Flat discs that sell for £1 - WHY?? A pair of QEII crowns sold. They may have been mint state, but when you sell these you think the good times will never end and it gives an incentive to try even harder.

I too have a load of crap duplicates that i've accumulated over the years, but have always been nervous about selling on Ebay, Is it better to list everything indvividually or make them into small lots that fit into standard postage rates?

maybe a job for winter, when I can't get into the garden

I think it depends on the individual value and what price you want for them! For instance, a couple of years ago I had a group of 6 very nice condition (EF or better) 1930s/40s farthings - cant remember the dates, so dont ask!

Listed twice as a group for a tenner plus a quid P&P, and got no more than 2 watchers either time!

Listed separately at a quid (plus a quid) each, and sold all 6 to a total of £23 plus P&P! Five even went to the same buyer!
