Threepence collection

Recommended Posts

Hi All.

An elderly member of our club who is not in the best of health has given me his collection of threepences to sell in order to raise funds for his not very well daughter and a potential move to sheltered accommodation for himself. It goes from Charles II onwards, but don't have images as yet. If anyone is looking for specific dates, please drop me a line and I can sort out something. Not all dates are there, particularly the earlier pieces, but a fair number are are in collectable grades up to EF & UNC rather than the usual Christmas pudding grade.

Ta.

I'd be interested in the scarce non-Maundy early Vic examples, also W IV, G IV, G III.

Any Vicky Young Heads in circulated grades (preferably VF) for the 1850s, 1860s and 1870s, plus 1845, 1846, 1888 and 1893 Jubilee.

Not interested in Maundy.

Wow, that about covers it! LOL

Well I do want really choice currency examples of 1841 and 1842 only.  Is there an 1868 RRITANNIAR? Mine is fairly nice but a choice piece would be special...

1841 3d is hard and separating out the maundy is a slog. (I think the great vendors’ fiction for all the 3d scarce dates is that it is difficult to do - so they don’t.). The link below is about the best I have found - but certainly not choice.  Has anyone seen a better example?

Choice 1868 RRITANNIAR would be special. As is the case with most collectors, any RRITANNIAR would be special. It isn't something you see on a regular basis. I've not been offered one in the past 17 years.

Your 55 example (photo on the PCGS site) is certainly the best I have seen. 1838 BRITANNIAB may be an even more scarce listed 3d variety - only a couple of examples in the auction records. Unlisted 3d varieties include 1862 BRITANNIAH (photo attached) and 1866 with upside down A in lieu of V - I am aware of just two examples of each so far …
