Canadian needs help on 2 pence

Recommended Posts

Hello from Montreal, Canada. Very sorry for this beginner's question. I inherited all kind of coins and need help on 2 from your great country.

They seem to me very common, but on Ebay they are selling what seems the same for over 1,000 CAD$. Any one here can bring me back to reality with value :)

Thanks a million

Marco

They may be advertised at that cost but I don't expect that they sell for anything but a few cents. Very common indeed.

Valued as £0.02 from over here in the uk , you might get lucky and get £0.05 for it

If you have a 1983 with new pence, then that would be worth a lot more.

Yes, many sellers try to confuse buyers and are deceptive representing common 2P pieces as the rare 1983 mule...

They are VERY common - almost one and a half billion (!) minted in 1971 (1,454,856,250 to be precise!) and hundreds of millions in the subsequent years. They are NOT selling for that money (merely optimistically listed at that): as others have said here it is only the 1983 mules that are rare. A combination of ignorance, misunderstanding and downright deception is behind the ludicrous pricing. If anyone has actually bought one for silly money, frankly more fool them!

I wonder the copper value of the coin.... 0.223 oz. of copper based on 97.5% alloy. Copper today is USD$4.59 per pound (12 troy ounces per pound).

1/54 of a pound = USD .085 per 2P coin....

Yep. Current scrap price for decimal bronze is about 3x face. Money to be made for someone.

only one of those dated 1983 would be worth good money (that was the year nearly all 2p's were 'TWO PENCE')
