    1861 BUNHEAD ID'S

no problem ,I will scan it tomorrow (was just about to head to bed) . The ribbon knot and bottom of the bun seem to have more detail than the wear would suggest it should .I think I will need to dig out the other ones I have filed away as doublers ,it is beginning to get more complicated ....and interesting lol.

I take it you mean on the hair ribbon . Yes ,it is centred . didn't think to check that ,although I had noticed before that some were off-centre

The top 2 should have been easy enough . the last one is a bit of a state . I also got 2 1860 pennies with them , but they were easy enough to work out (f13 and f15 ). I suppose that practice makes perfect .

I thought you had the numbers wrong . I went with the die combinations . I have an F22 AND 33 ,didn't have a F29 .Freemans, although very informative , can be a bit of a puzzle sometimes .

1825 over 6 shilling it exists

I have magnified it ,still dont see anything but a damaged 6 that resembles a 5 .I don't see the normal 5 shape in it , but it has all the characteristics of a 6

What are these strange blotches on hammered coins

They are not an indicator of forgeries. They are called annulets .common on lots of hammered coins .I am sure they are there for a reason ,and I am sure one of the hammered experts will tell us both why lol.
  17. A good grade ,but not uncirculated .Looks cleaned to me , but it may just be the quality of the photo.

    EBAY SCAM

When it comes to the mark up on a coin ,it is the dealers coin and he can ask whatever price he wants for it (If someone is happy to pay over the odds, thats up to them).over generous grading and wrongly attributing of varieties etc is different That's false advertising (lying). If they can't grade the coin fairly or can't attribute it correctly , then they shouldn't .

    Coin dealers in the UK

In 15 years of collecting ,I have never been overcharged for any coin or note that I have bought (many thousands) .I have overpaid plenty of times though.

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

Havn't had any dealings with catawiki ,so I had a look at some of there auctions .The straits settlement dollar that states that it is 100% genuine ,but is only 20 grams and poorly cast, doesn't fill me with any confidence they have any expertise ,if they cant weed that out .
  23. I think the Royal Mint would have a better idea about it , if it has come out the mint like that ,it would definitely be of interest to the decimal collectors.
