Ah! I couldn't understand how such a common year had been missed!
Thanks.

After quite a few months of searching, I have managed to get hold of a copy of Peck for a very reasonable price. First impressions are very good; A lot of information and the plates are superb.
One thing I noted while flicking through was 1936 being missed for penny, halfpenny and farthing. Has anyone else noticed this? It's not an issue, I have a copy of Freeman to reference bronze.

I think the date reads VS1977 (1920).. which would make it KM 690.1?

Yep, catalogue just landed

How do I get hold of a hard copy of the catalogue?

I bought a 5kg of mixed copper/bronze for around £30 a while back, it kept me busy for a month or two. Managed to take what I wanted and sell the rest on for a small profit.
£75 for 15kg seems reasonable to me, more so if you can check them out in person beforehand.

Same seller has a few Unc..

I am being out bid at the last second of the auction but as said above if they settle down I can hang on until one comes at sensible money.
Sounds like a sensible plan, it's the only bugger I'm missing, all the others I've picked from circulation and reluctant to pay silly money for it.

But if you bid the most you are willing to pay, it doesn't matter if you get out bid at 1 second or 1 week.
I think this is the key point here, if you put down the maximum you're prepared to pay, you won't be disappointed.
Are you being outbid by a lot?

Have you tried not showing your hand until the last few seconds of the auction, then putting in a relatively high bid. If you win, the amount you pay will be slightly above the next highest bid - eg: a coin has several bidders and is worth about £75.00. The current high bid is £54. In the last few seconds you overbid at the absolute limit of what you can afford, in this instance let's say £100. You are the winner but only pay £58.00. Also In the last few seconds there was also another bid of £57.00. So you pay £1.00 above this figure.
It's worked many times for me.
I always hold off until the last 30 seconds, then bid the maximum I'm willing to pay. You win some, you lose some, there's plenty of pennies around. Be patient and you'll get one at the right price.

It must take some effort to snap a coin in two.
You'd think it would just bend, although it does mention the coin being cracked beforehand.

It's hard to see from the pictures, can you make out any of the legends?

Matt, a few articles that may be of interest.

I've had a bit of a look round & i think i'm leaning towards the threepence, as there seems to be a lot of variety in shape & material, there are some cheaper & some rarer examples to try collect so i think i'm going to start there.
Thanks again for everyone's help
Can be an interesting denomination to collect. Quite a few minor varieties for the threepences. If you haven't already, a copy of Davies may come in handy.

At a guess I'd say 6-700, they're in a tin under my bed separate to my main collection. Inevitably they'll remain there, I havnt got the heart to get rid of them, I should think he'd been picking them out of change for years.
