Thanks for the fast reply. The cardboard holders I have are mylar so that's ok. So just in the short term, say 2-3 weeks until I get chance to transfer a new coin a mylar holder should be ok? Just a bit of a panic, bought a few nice coins in the last few weeks and havnt had chance to do anything with them yet.

Some of the books can be expensive, more so if you are unsure of which area to collect. Try your local library, I was very surprised to find the variety of books available. Also, on request they can often order more in. I borrowed a few spink catalogues when I first started collecting.

My latest aqusition, 1881 Jersey 1/12 of a shilling. Only 75,000 minted that year. -
Quite a find, such a shame about the water damage.

Hi all, I have this George iii half penny that I picked up cheap off ebay, but its been cleaned. Its a shame because it seems to have quite nice detail and not much wear. So just wandered will it re tone again and is there anything that I can do to speed the process up? Many Thanks in advance

Hi folks After some recommendations from a few people on this forum I've been looking into 18th century tokens, ive flicked through the show us your copper thread and there are some fantastic tokens around. Ive tried to research a bit about the history behind them. Is there any reference books on the market that people can recommend? Also, is there any good websites other than ebay that sell tokens? Many thanks in advance.

I'm quite new to grading coins and think I may have been over grading my coins. I've just bought this 1906 farthing and just wandered if people could let me know what they think the grade is to help me get my eye in. I've read up quite a few different sources online and id grade this coin maybe VF - NEF. If I could have your opinions it would be gratefully appreciated and if its lower that what I think could you give a little explanation on what would have lowered the grade. Sorry for the newbie question again. Many thanks in advance. Ps. I do apologise for the photos, have had to use a phone camera.

Thanks for the feedback everyone, its a great help with getting my eye in. Ive borrowed my wife's camera and taken some hopefully better pictures.. Although still not great.

Thanks for the feedback. Its much better in hand, its hard to get a good picture using a phone camera. I picked it up off ebay for 50p so I'm happy!

That's nice, the detail on it is far better. I'm a big fan of George III coppers. -

Unfortunately no rarities. It took some time to sort through the collection, everything was in an old wooden box. A mixture of British decimal and pre decimal and a lot of world coins which were fun to research as not all were obvious as to where they were from. All sorted and researched now. -

I do have another 1807 half penny which has some nice detail but unfortunately I think it has been cleaned (not by me). The first coin I ever bought was an 1887 shilling. -

Thank you, I hope to collect a type set for each monarch from George III through to pre decimal QEII, I have quite a bit from the latter monarchs that were passed down from my grandfather. I have been making purchases for the past 6 months or so to build up my collection.
