Lovely display Rob. I particularly like those two William & Mary ones you have there but then they've always been a favourite of mine. Did the one struck in brass come from the Nicholson collection?
Speaking of William & Mary: here's a variety rarely seen in any condition.

Nice you have examples of all three. I've always liked the George I farthings, they're tidy little gems. I don't have the 1 over 0 but do have the normal issue and a nice example of the scarce stop after date variety (pictured).

Hi Peter. David did begin a halfpenny thread a little while ago but there's not much going on there. If you were to start up something for the mighty farthing I'd certainly be willing to contribute.

Lovely Rob. My 1821 isn't as good as that but I do have a rather nice 1827 which also displays iridescent toning.

A decent 1821 (I'm always pleased when someone posts farthings!) but in circulation the lustre soon disappears anyway, so I wouldn't expect to see any on yours. A toned, uncirculated, example would be nice to see if anyone here has one.

Hi Rob. I too have a second example of the unbarred A's, and that one does have an obvious stop after MARIA. The obverse stop is clearly visible on Nicholson 049 too (pictured).

A 1694. Not only unbarred As in MARIA but no stop after it too. Unrecorded? I can't find mention of this variety anywhere.

Another to share from me…..
Not a rare coin but harder to find than the 1806, particularly in higher grades. Nice too that it has some original lustre remaining.

As copper halfpenny and farthing varieties have always been an interest of mine this would be a thread I'd happily follow and contribute to.
So, for the sake of showing a bit of willing here's one from me which, although originally posted a couple of years ago, might be of interest here to anyone who hasn't seen it. A 1718 halfpenny with the first N of Britannia over an A. An extremely rare and unlisted variety but lower grade and less obvious examples do appear in the Dr. Nicholson and Joe Lee collections.

I had that bookmarked too but, in the end, decided not to bid. The bit poking out from under the five (top left) looks fine but it was what I see under, and to the right, of the down stroke of the five which put me off. That couldn't possibly be the down stroke of a three. Still, maybe my loss. Who knows?

Indeed. I was actually tempted, after reading Flash's post to buy one of the BINs but, as they stand, even with a will to help, the prices quoted are way too high.

Flash. Just a thought:
If they're badly in need of raising some funds from the sale a collection maybe you could help her out by (gently) suggesting realistic asking prices? As things stand most, if not all, of the 'Buy It Now's are unlikely to sell. For all her efforts better they get some money than none at all? Please excuse me putting in my tuppence worth. It's a sad story and I just wanted to offer a solution which might help.

Apart from all the truly innovative, and downright entertaining, work he gave us himself if it hadn't been for him so many of us would've remained ignorant of the Velvets, Stooges, Mott, Jacques Brel etc. etc. His influence on us Liverpool kids of the 1970s can't be overstated. We all, boys and girls, both, wanted to be like him.

My wife's very upset too. She's just returned home from school (early finish today, not because of the news), and I'm told many other members of staff are equally saddened.
I guess, for a lot of us, his death represents a part of our youth lost.
I'll be watching Cracked Actor and the Ziggy farewell film this evening.
