    1875 F79 Penny

Its easier IMO Blake to get as many lists as possible from Dealers and keep them .More coins of any reasonable grade will have been sold by dealers attributed correctly than anything else as the majority going in an auction have been submitted by a dealer or by a seller who bought it from a dealer originally. They also may not be of a value worth putting in Auction. Some maybe duplicated but even so its a guide as to how many of something there may be and in what grades from dealers who are handling a lot more every month than the few people who post on the forum ,apart from the last 12 months were it is harder for dealers to buy anything due to covid. Over a period of time you can soon find out what is hard to find or plentifull and why i keep them all going back seven years since i started to collect pennies. Out of interest i looked at lists for F79 and made a phone call yesterday and a couple more calls this morning as lots of sought after coins may be sold by dealers before they even go on a list. It also means that even some coins that may be considered common are much harder to find than we may think as most collectors when they buy a coin dont look for that particular type anymore. So over the seven years i have kept lists if there are hardly any on they are either scarce or sought after as sold straight away.

    1858/3 Penny

http://www.michael-coins.co.uk/cp_1858.htm I dont have a picture but Michael Gouby has them on his site CP1858G ,its the one with the bit within the bottom loop.

Yes i agree Jerry and like plenty others IMO should only considered rare in high grade.

    1858/3 Penny

They are both open to opinion but both varieties completely different and can be spotted by a glance. Gouby says the 1858/2 is the one with a die crack through the date. The 1858/3 is (i dont think it is ) open to opinion. However yes there are two varieties that are both different but often attributed as the same variety.

I know not many collect Models ,however you will have to believe me that they are really hard to find in high grade and problem free. Most have been messed about with , cleaned ,played with or not stored properly. They are easy to buy for not much money but not easy to find in this grade 😃

    2020 penny

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-49275300 None were struck for circulation from what i can see in 2018 & 2019 ,the 2018 are also confirmed as none being struck for circulation in the Royal mint mintage figures. So they will just be in the sets. https://www.royalmintmuseum.org.uk/home3/currency/uk-currency/mintages/

Sorry again i misunderstood and with regards contacting the RM was just something i thought may help ,but obviously not. Hope it does not drag on to long for you and no doubt the legal position will be the best as you had mentioned before , i will keep out of a thread that i know nothing about 😀

Thats your call ,phone them up and ask them what happens and tell them your names Mr.xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx I am still unsure how you are responsible for paying the money back for something they delivered four months late and you dont have. The question is who is responsible to pay the insurer you or the person who has it ? If its you (Mr XXX ) you are closer to getting it resolved and just tell the buyer you can send him some evidence and he has to pay or return the coin. If its the buyer ,you can move on 🙂 ........................................ Reading further back the buyer has said if the insurance is returned he will pay you 👍

Is it not just easier as you have done nothing wrong Richard to just phone the Royal mail up ?. Tell them exactly whats happened you dont have the item and what do you do next ,you will then know and have peace of mind exactly what the right procedure is.

Perhaps i should of worded it better Jerry ,apart from sending a few emails i hardly know him and would be not any different than anyone else getting involved 👍

In all due respect Jerry it has nothing to do with me ,same as any other business transaction its a matter for them to sort out and not for me to get involved.

I think for his own peace of mind Richard has done the right thing by asking someone who can give him the right legal answers. I am sure it will get sorted out quickly and easily , my initial concern was someone doing or asking for something that was not legally right.

I would not worry about it ,they have written the packet off and paid you as the packet was not delivered in a reasonable time. They know you dont have it anymore and IF they were to ask for some kind of settlement i think would contact the current owner. If i am wrong and they do get in touch with you first then just inform the current owner before you make any payment who i am sure if he has not been contacted will be able to sort it out with you. It will sort itself out and would not worry about something that i doubt will happen 🙂

Yes the buyer as of today has a coin for nothing but that is due to the insurance ,who may still settle or ask for a payment from them .So the purchaser playing fair and square is exactly the same as the sender asking for the money twice ,although the second time they no longer own it ? As far as i can see the insurance company as of today have bought the coin with compensation and given it to the purchaser ? As far as i can see up untill today no liability or risk for anyone unless a further payment is made and that should maybe only be done when or if either party is contacted by the insurer. Forgetting the two people involved ,what happens every other time this happens ,perhaps even more so on a packet with a value of much less Reputation and word gets about sounds like someone is hiding something or doing some thing wrong 😃

Thank you for your reply Jerry and could not understand why if someone received payment for something regardless who from they would ask for the money again or the return of something .The contract was resolved and full payment made to the sender by the insurance company and is upto the insurance company if they wish to proceed. As you mention Jerry it is afterall the seller who needs compensation and he has had it. I also thought possibly wrongly that the packet had been wriiten off and was not up to the person the insurance company had paid to ask for payment again or the return of something they NO LONGER OWN. Is this not a matter for the insurance company to contact the purchaser if they wish and not the sender who has accepted full payment ? The purchaser notified the seller straight away and was delighted and IMO not hiding anything or done anything wrong.I feel IF Richard was contacted for a return of any money by the insurer (which i dont think they will ) the purchaser only at that time would be responsible to make a payment or return to the insurance company or Richard. I dont profess to be right but asking for another payment ,return or court all does not sound right to me.......although i dont have a clue 😃 As it is today nobody is out of pocket apart from the insurer ,although i am sure they are still making a few quid and a rare coin has turned up that can be continued to be passed down over generations.👍

Is that information legally correct Jerry or just your opinion or thoughts please ? Also this and mainly " The matter of the RM compensation has nothing to do with him " I assume you have checked Jerry or know what you are saying is correct . Does the overwritter (Royal mail ) contact Richard or the other person ,if or should they contact anyone at all ? Pete.

    Grannie's old sayings

I doubt that was a common saying Paddy ...........I have just spent 5 minutes trying to read it out loud and given up 😂

    Grannie's old sayings

"Dont eat that its a bit powsey and have a sugar buttie instead " My grandma lived to 103 without going into a home and always used to make me laugh with her daft sayings. Everyday she had some whisky in her tea at 3.00 and her saying to me when i passed her one "is the whisky in the bottom of the cup ". There are loads of sayings in Lancashire but in a dialect nobody else would understand 😂

Having a look its already been cleaned and the stuff thats left maybe rock hard / live. Scratching it off with a pin and retoning it is probably the only option ,putting verdicare or acid on though will at least kill it but wont remove it and better looking black IMO. I doubt a TPG would touch it as to far gone and wont do anything with damage ,graffiti or corrosion but does not cost anything to ask. I think i would politely ask Jerry to work his magic and give him a good few quid if he is kind enough and can find the time , as you have the confidence he knows what he is doing With the green / blue gone and the coin retoned would be a big improvement. Otherwise just put it away and dont look at it 😃 Sorry if i have dragged you in Jerry and put your name forward 👍
