Welcome to the forum Euromen, someone should be along shortly to help but please don't open multiple threads for the same question.
Unfortunately I have very limited knowledge of hammered coins so I won't be much help.
-
Great eye Terry, and very well detailed. This could be part and parcel of trying to iron out the problems they had from changing the bust design, differing shapes/sizes of numerals and fonts etc. A question, as I don't have an F160 to compare, does the E in ONE also differ between these varieties?
The F160 is hard enough as it is... don't say I need to find 2 of the buggers

The guy - signs himself as Tony, although seller name is Shelly - obviously has major issues with written communication. In the link Jon posted just a few minutes ago, he entitles his worn and overpriced 1926 ME penny, as follows:-
What does that even mean?
Strange, because each and every time I've spoken to her, she has reminded me of the fact she is selling her husbands coins because he has a terminal illness. A fact which she has shared with many for some reason. And she always signed off with Shelly.
Also I have no idea what that listing means

Thanks Paul, I was looking for the coin prices though, as in some sort of comparison in the price changes CGS makes of their valuations.
For example they valued a 1901 penny - CGS 80 at 50 quid in 2015, then 60 quid in 2016. For example.
-
Does anyone have a copy of CGS prices for either 2015 or 2014? I remember exporting it at one point but cannot find it for the life of me. Thanks.

Jerry more or less hit the nail on the head there.
I've bought from Shelly before when she first started listing all these pennies and alas the coins were cleaned, I got in touch and explained that they weren't advertised as such and she told me she didn't know if a coin was cleaned or not, and I returned them for a full refund, including postage. I wouldn't buy from her again, but in her defence the return was trouble free, albeit a bit intense.

I've just had delivery of a cabinet from Smokerings from Ebay.I can tell you top notch quality...well chuffed. It is the dogs b******.
Busy over Xmas in moving coins about.

Do you have a pic Peter?

I think it was because of the ghosting problems they had, but not 100%. There might be something in the prologue of Freeman about it?
I know they darkened some farthings because at the time people were trying to pass off the newly struck ones as half-sovereigns.

Manners cost nothing, between you, your behaviour is appalling, I would expect comments like this in Facebook, not in what supposed to be a serious forum.
You can patronise & take the pi** all you like, just sold all 4. (To someone on here for a lot more than the first one sold for)
First time I have logged on for weeks, (& probably the last) unlike some I don’t spend my life on forums putting people down.
IanB “I'll have one Pete, if Paul O wants to do the deal. “, (that’s nice of you to ask)
Nordle11 “I think your marketing techniques are a bit askew, Suffolk Coins needless to say, you lost at least one bid with me.”, (let me have your eBay ID so I can block you).
If you can tell me where anyone was discourteous I'm all ears, otherwise you came here for free advice and then didn't bother telling any of us who showed interest that you'd listed them, so yes, manners cost nothing.
If you cannot take criticism, Paul, I suggest not logging on to any forum at all. Rest assured, you won't need to block my ID.

Hi Nordle, thank you for your reply. The only other photo I have at present is the attached (from the seller). The coin is currently at my mother's and I won't be seeing it again until I return on Christmas Eve!
A nice Christmas present for when you get back anyway. It does look like another S under there, but having it in hand will probably yield better results.
-
Looks like it's just double-punched, seems to follow the same curves.
Can you take a close-up of just the S?

While doing a survey on decimal pennies I came across this curio. I found 4 identical at a ratio of about 1 in 30 of the 2007 type 1 portcullis variants.
I think it looks like a chip in the die but would be interested in everyone else's take on it. Obviously as I have found 4 it is quantifiable as a variety but how would it be best to describe it.
Looking forward to your responses.
Thanks Brian
I'd agree with you there Brian, that it's a chip in the die. I wouldn't necessarily class it a variety in the sense of a design change, but as a curio that one can look out for, as you said.

Be on ebay soon Mike
for about £1K
I bid on a crap coin but had a letter (royal mint) that finished on sunday and bid £22 just for a bit of interest as was more interested in the letter than the coin.
The seller had a reserve of which was not met but kindly sent me a message to say the reserve was £3400.00 if i was interested.
Still having a think about it

What was the interesting thing about it?

They are selling for between £5 and £9 (depends on condition obviously) on eBay for circulated condition. Look out for the ones in a sealed presentation pack, I just got one for £5 meaning the coin is BU inside. Check my website for more details on the WWF 50p, Kew Gardens 50p, 2012 Olympics coins and many other rare coins. (not sure if I am allowed to post a link so PM me if you want it).
If your website has good information on coins/coin collecting, post away, free information is more than welcome.
However if it's just your site where you sell coins, probably best not to.

Just because it took you 3 seconds doesn't mean it's pointless

Anyway, it took me 1 second to know it's not a mule so you're just wasting 2 seconds there. Which is kinda pointless.

Not exactly pointless if it can be used to confirm a variety

1905 penny 3rd type

Well remembered AH.
If anything, Terry, it serves as confirmation of your own findings. @DaveG38 do you mention anything about the curved E or the size of the 0 in the date or only regarding the spacing between the numerals? Sorry no book to hand.
