What extra varieties does it mention?

I tend to stick to Freeman but also look out for any new dies as reported by Gouby and the penny people here. I avoid all flaws, date varieties, re-entered letters etc to keep things manageable.

My first acquisition of 2017 - and probably my last for a few months as it's cleaned me out post Christmas - is an 1862 F41, from halfpenny dies. Bought Colin Cooke, ex Andy Scott. Straight fine with all major details intact.

Been trying to a reasonable specimen for years. Finally succeeded. Most of the others I've seen on offer have been washers or not much better.

Excellent coin indeed and congratulations, a very clean example.

Even after or should you get them what use are they unless you were turning them over quickly and the money you received going into a bank ?.

I mean for insurance purposes, proof of purchase and all that jazz.

Pass. It's on its way to Matt.

From memory it's mostly things like open and closed 9s.

Doubt it. It was in the January 1971 issue of Coins, incorporating coins and medals. It was in a pile of catalogues I picked up at the weekend.

Bugger, well one for the list I guess. Is it just called 'Coins'? I had a quick google but the name is so general I just get a lot of other unrelated stuff.

  6. For me it's Freeman/Gouby numbers and widely accepted varieties (like the popular dot flaws). I'd buy curios but wouldn't go out of my way to spend a chunk on something like a B over R, unless the price was better than I thought the resale would be.

The VR court survey, for those interested, should be in the useful links thread under general.

Have you tried asking her to trim down her collection of shoes, handbags and pretty things for the house? Then there would be plenty of space for your coins??

A little late here but this made me laugh coffee out my nose. Then I had to explain to everyone at work what I was doing. In Spanish. With coffee all over me.

    -_-

  8. Hi and welcome to the forum!

A strange effect on that one... If you just want to know value, it's still going to be 20p unfortunately. Maybe on eBay someone will pick it up as a curio, but I doubt anyone would pay more than a quid or so.

As to how that happened, I've actually no idea. Could be a severe die clash or a bad die, I'm interested what others think.
