Agreed! Collecting 50ps is what lead me to where I am today and I'm still collecting them as they come out!

The only thing I know is wash is less than 3 microns and plating is somewhere between that and about 35 microns.

I recommend signing up to codecademy.com, it's where I first started out with html5, css, jquery etc. Excellent tool and you will learn a lot even from the free stuff.
Depending where you store the info, you might need a little MySQL experience too

This thread reminds me actually I picked up a nice filled 2 on a 1920, I'll grab some pictures when I can. The filled part is actually higher than the digit.

It was at 50 when I put 200 down, I figured it would get up to 100 odd which isn't all that bad considering it was actually a very nice 1934 in itself, and added an extra 100 because of the missing waves. I did wonder if someone on here nabbed it.

Your picture is much more representative of the coin I think. It was good to have two sets of photos during the auction.

I believe it to be a flawed planchet. I have a similar one on a 1d.

I don't think you need to worry about treating the wood if you're keeping the coins in quadrums. When you get round to it Brian, start a thread and post some pics while you're doing it, would be great to see it progress!

That could be the case, although my maximum was over what it is worth, at least in my opinion. It was the only lot I wanted so was happy to pay over the odds as I've only seen perhaps one other like it.
I couldn't see anyone else going as high as I went.
Anyway, lesson learnt. Either attend personally, low bid, or no bid

Lucky I didn't put an even higher bid. I only knew they opened with it because there were members from here that were in the room at the time.
I would've emailed querying it, but we all know I either wouldn't have gotten a response or probably told to bugger off.

One thing that really p***** me off with the last LCA auction was that I put a high bid on one coin as my maximum, it was way over the higher estimate, and because it was via email and I wasn't in the room they just opened the bidding with my maximum and of course that was the hammer price. Even though it states on their website;
"...this does not mean that you will pay the maximum, you will pay the next bidding step up from the under bidder." and "Bidders will supply their maximum level and London Coins will execute this instruction at the sale, lots may be obtained for less than the maximum bid."
Needless to say, that wasn't how the CC auction went.

I quite enjoyed that type of auction, but I suppose I was bidding and not selling. I think I would prefer an auction house though because I think they have a bigger client base and can therefore reach more customers. I would also say that the quick-fire and pressured situation an auction brings might cause some people to bid higher than they should, because you don't have the luxury of time to think.

Yes be prepared for that, but don't be disheartened. It happens to us all, even as you become more experienced.
Sometimes you take a punt and it turns out to be nothing, other times not. It's all part of the fun.

Get yourself to a coin fair Chapps, there'll be an excellent selection just to browse and get a feel of what you like.
For example, pictures cannot prepare you for how small a farthing actually is. All coin denominations look the same size when they're squared off and blown up in photos.
