Hi, I have a 1916 penny but it has a letter R in a box stamped on it? I've taken it to an antiques where I'm from and he suggested it's a rejected coin and very rare!? Have you ever heard of this before?

I will get pictures tomorrow for you .

    thanks

Sounds like a counter stamped coin, which anyone can do so not as rare as maybe the dealer alluded to. Pictures would be good.

Although a very nice coin, I think the vendor may be somewhat ambitious with the price he's asking.

I mean, c'mon, you're 'avin a larf my son

That guy's prices are always very high. Same guy that takes pictures of pictures on his computer screen to use in the listing, which baffles me.

"according to the LCGSValuations By Grade." i.e. their valuations and not Spink's. Rather unfortunately their valuations are sometimes way over the top. Some of the coins I slabbed with CGS in the past  were given CGS values of three times what I paid. And to be fair to them, they do occasionally give realistic values.
