Hi Zakkil, welcome to the forum, you're in good hands here
About the coins you've mentioned, it sounds (to me, at least) like they could be fakes, generally the mint doesn't make errors like the writing being updside down but that is the sort of thing a counterfeiter would do. The pemember error is genuine, although not worth more than it's value really, there are just too many about. About the cleaning, please don't do it.
I'd definitely grab yourself a book on decimal coinage, you'll see an ad at the top for Rotographic books, we really can't recommend them enough. There's also a decimal section with a ton of info for general browsing, you might find some interesting stuff in there.
Get some pictures up of your best coins in the meantime, the easiest way to do it is to click bottom left (of the text box) where it says 'Drag files here to attach, or choose files...' and upload directly from your computer, once it's uploaded it will automatically show once you submit the post. If it's a size issue, get the photo up on your computer screen and take a screenshot, then crop the picture in paint and save it as a JPEG, that will get it under the 500kb limit.

Are we talking at cross purposes here ? Laurie Bamford only collected Victorian pennies. I've been talking about 1946 ONE' pennies.
Yes, we're talking 1897 dot. Now everything is making more sense

Ok guys, calm down, maybe I'm out of touch on this one. I'll have to put my 2 spares on Ebay - they're only GF but cost £25 and £17 15 years ago.
IMHO eBay will let you down on this one, Richard, sell it to a fellow collector you will likely get the same, if not more after ebay/paypal fees. Or consign them, I still think you'll get more.

I think you're over-estimating the value. I paid £170 for my Aunc specimen (in 2004) but I wouldn't want to pay more than £250 for it now. But I guess it's all down to what someone will pay, as ever.
I think you're a little out of touch then Richard
The variety certainly has come leaps and bounds in the last 10 years , I can't see an UNC example selling at £250 when the F-VF examples are selling at £100-150 in auction (that's before the juice). I would be extremely happy with that at £250!
-
That's what I mean, what are you researching haha, there's literally no information about realised prices for ones in this grade
A grand seems fair, I wouldn't hesitate for such a good looking one at that price. I think £1500 would be the top, top estimate though, juice included.

Anyone want a low grade for £100 in a cgs slab PM me .
They say £180 but now i have a good one not any use to me so a bargain.
The BU ones seem to be a grand plus.
Where did you get that from? Not that you're wrong, I've just never seen one for sale before to even guess at a price.

Dirty great boulder between the O and the N
1 minute ago, PWA 1967 said:Its got a DOT over the O in one not really a big deal but collectable and Freeman lists it

Or in layman's terms...
Although I would say that it is a big deal, a F-VF will cost you 75-150 depending, so something like this one is much more..

What is a Dot Penny please explain as new to everything about pennies
It's a flaw found on this year of pennies, you can see the dot in between the O and N of ONE on the reverse. It's more than likely the result of a damaged die but some theories suggest it was a purposeful indicator for various reasons. Just because of the location, prominence and roundness I think it's gained notoriety and become one of the recognised varieties for the year.

Yes, I'm in two minds as to whether to re-bid myself.
A few are selling at or below estimate, more especially the ones with low estimates below £100. The majority are well over, however.
TBH I know nothing of most of these lots, so the estimate is all I have to go on and most are double, triple what the estimate is.
-
These are all 'come and buy me' estimates.

Jesus you're not wrong, just flicking back through the realised prices

Its in a cgs slab graded 80 and scarce in high grade although the picture is RANG
I have been looking for a good one for ages so happy with this

Apart from Richard's one, I've only ever seen VF tops of this. Very jealous.

Yeah I imagine so, could be that with the recent 404's Chris has asked them to relax the security settings in the backend, that might be letting all these ads in.
I'm sure others have sent him a message, as have I, but there's honestly nothing I can do though except suggest ways around it for now.
It's not as straight cut as one problem, everyone is experiencing it differently, some not at all, some can block them, some can't, it's 'un rollo' as we say here.
-
What do you mean?
-
No wonder you're p***ed, those ads are literally about 70% of your screen

Matt is it possible you can PM me your email address so I can send you the screenshot of what i'm getting on my mac?
Yeah for sure

Very strange, the problem with things like this is that it also stops people from reporting that they're having problems because they can't post. Chris has mail so hopefully he can get to the bottom of it.

As an update, Chris has the same issue so couldn't post, but he's on it.
