Got home about 3.30 and tried to watch the auction but found I couldn't log in although I'm sure I've bid before in their auctions. Then tried to register only to find "registration pending" like you. A little later it appeared that I was able to bid although I received nothing to tell me that registration had been successful. Luckily I wasn't intending to bid but agree with you that it's pretty disappointing.

These doubled character examples occur too often to be regarded as unique varieties but they do provide interesting variations for some collectors. When a character is overpunched with a different character it often becomes a recordable variety, even though both types are probably the accidental result of an attempt to repair a damaged die.

Just bought on Ebay a nice example of the 1905 with smaller zero in the date as reported by Terry Eagleton earlier this year.

My F148 high tide seems to be the same, although the numbers are different positions !

Because they were sold in halfcrown and penny blocks, they didn't include the words "halfcrown" or "penny" in the individual descriptions and so they won't have turned up in any searches for those words. Not very clever marketing !!!!

Ian, it didn't sell at the auction. That's all I know.

Interesting to see that the specimen which sold last year at Baldwins for £72,000 only reached less than £50,000 yesterday at Heritage ! Actually, a far more realistic price in my view.

If you attend an auction in person, you'll need to register as a bidder and you will be given a numbered card or "paddle" to hold up when you bid so that the auctioneer can record who won any particular bid. If you register with "The Saleroom" you will be allocated a bidder number (equivalent to paddle number) which will be recorded with any internet bids you place, whether in advance or live during the auction. This number will show on your screen when you place a bid during live bidding.

I think that's right. The estimates (plus commission) look a little high. I fear the seller could be disappointed although I hope not.
