It is a moot point whether the undecimo gothic crown is a pattern. Firstly 8000 were produced which is high for a pattern. In addition, it also gained legal tender status unlike non-adopted patterns. Hence, some did circulate as currency.

If I have to take a position, I would call it a limited issue rather than a pattern.

Wreath crowns are not generally considered patterns either.

I suppose if any shopkeeper was offered up a gothic crown they would be a bit daft to not take it for face value seeing as coins were bought and sold as antiques in victorian times .

Wreath crowns come into the same bracket

That's fascinating. Well done for finding it out and keeping the story alive.

This is the sort of item I would buy; but for the story and history rather than as a coin.

lets hope he never ended up as a pair of falsies

I have thin planchet struck pennies, threepence, shillings, and I think halfpennies - all this much more common in the late '50s to '60s. So legit specimens do exist and probably not all that valuable but interesting none-the-less.

If they are listed on ebay they can fetch £40 to £200 which is not a lot  even for a pos .  unique coin

Your best tip is to list it with a minimum bid and hope some variety collector sees it it could sell the day you put it on or it might take six months , best case scenario is two collectors take a shine to it.

I'm pretty sure they were struck more often than on a weekly basis....

It does exist. I know my 17th century copper well enough to confirm the letter is an I, and which is even more obvious 'in hand'.

I see people listing 1700 and 1701 on ebay, stating their coins to be the rare unbarred As variety. Unbarred is the norm. As with bars are the ones to look out for.

Everyone likes a nice bar LOL

These coins are a nightmare often weekly struck and with other things wrong with them they make a wonderful life's work for anyone sorry but we need a higher grade coin to confirm it but it probably does not exist , interesting and frustrating at the same time

P > S looks like unbarred A's on reverse as well
