  1. You could send it by special delivery to all the owners so they could enjoy it in their collections for a week or so - it would end up very expensive though and the person drawn to receive it last would always wondering if it will go missing somewhere along the way .
  2. Funny enough and thinking about it the three rarest bronze farthings 1863 ,1875 and 1876 H have quite a few varieties between them . Some only discovered recently. Maybe someone or something just wants it to be really hard to get a full set !
  3. Funny enough the coin pictured on your website ,colin as high 6 is in almost identical condition to mine . I grade as fine or so
  4. I see on the freeman rarity scale that only one in a hundred or so 1876 H farthings are the large 6 variety possibly even less this being the case I think it is seriously underrated. 1876 H farthings are quite scarce (esp in VF and above)and they remain with 1863 and 1875 as the key dates in the bronze series We all know freemans rarity scale is often wrong, but not usually by much and as it is just an intelligent guess really. How many have you seen please colin? I am pretty sure it will not have been many.
  5. I must say as well idiot buyers don't just bother with ebay they also attend auctions as well - when a coin in a major l London auction house goes for a fantastic price (due to two buyers wanting the same coin ,just like on ebay) , these forums are abuzz with Wow did you see that auction result, etc. Common sense is not (often) a factor when two dedicated buyer want something
  6. Strangely enough colin cooke never had an example in his collection . I am sure it would have done the variety good if he had
  7. It is large high 6 ,and like you say I am sure the guides are out on their prices on this one - in fact the best price guide of all is complated listings on ebay. Maybe ebay should employ a few profesional graders and produce a guide. i looked at compleated listings under 1876 farthing and as usual no large 6 coins are there :(
  8. I think they underate the rarity of the coin then as ordinary 1876 H farthings are easy worth these prices
  9. Nice to find a younger collector who understands that a bit of churn on his collection can pay dividends. Here's to more great buying and selling

A crown collection is a wonderful thing to have. Not one for the person who has no patience or is without deep pockets
  11. In a lot of ways ebay laughs on this forum really sums up the general public's lack of knowledge about numismatics - well we all go on it and have a laugh at the polished buttons described as near mint , and the metal detector finds of blank corroded pennies . Things ain't gonna change overnight guys and in the end the only person in this numismatic jungle who is really to blame for buying rubbish is the buyer , no matter how wise or foolish this person might be. In the end just make sure it ain't you that's buying the unsellable rubbish
  12. Even being a "known" dealer does not guarantee that a coin is genuine many northumberland shilling fakes have appeared in dealers trays and major London auction houses as well. To be fair any BNTA member would at least give you your cash back with no quibble if you had any doubts after buying from them
  13. Is it a 1918/1919 threepence? If so there have been many arguements over this but the general consencus is it is not an overdate.
  14. I think this was done years ago and the BNTA was formed Unfortunately enough, you don't have to be a member to sell a few coins on ebay or be a dealer of any repute
  15. lots of trade tokens came from guilford - more than oxford anyway guilford i think is more likely
  16. not to far from home then - there was a lot of trade between oxford and london
  17. End of place name looks like ord .... Is it oxford?
  18. Looks fishy as a haddock to me
  19. why not just slab it as it is and some american might pay a fortune for it ! PS looks like chemical or heat damage to me
  20. Funny thing is they even got the clipped thing wrong It is not clipped and in that state (if genuine ) would be a lovely example. If only worth £60- £100 , as has been already stated
  21. Just shows really , most slabbed coins are not to be trusted - there are are a few names to trust , but american's and not me know who they are
  22. In the absence of getting upgrades on coins in my collection , I have now started buying similar grade coins to the ones i have now but with a better tone (colour) , I really love the light coloured chocolate tone on early bronze and copper. Early Victorian bronze is harder to find with a good tone than the copper Anyone think this is a waste of time , or is eye appeal not valued in this country (Unlike the states). IMHO a lovely toned copper George IV penny for example is a real thing of beauty and to be admired a black toned one does very little for me , but I might consider it as a space filler. I sell the spares on ebay - this sort of upgrade usually cost me 20% of the coins value , so it really is not that expensive.
  23. I must admit to scratching my head and just wondering how cc coins have the cheak to grade that 1732 as fine , yes it is a scarcer george II date but Fine? LOL I must say the 1744 farthing at £30 (1744) make much more appeal IMHO , a really bitch of a date to find and the coin is attractive with no problems
  24. NVF on that obverse is not very accurate I would say , i have no probs with the reverse. a really lovely coin at a good price
  25. Thanks for the many posts and opinions you all have given . I must say as well that the 1851 farthing in GVF also has the destinction of not one edge knock and this is quite unusual for early copper, in fact the edge is superb.
