Strange , that the die in question cannot be found in older sales of the 1763 Shilling yet same seller of the £2395 1763 now has another at £1400 and a USA seller has a much worse looking one at £1256 Photo one is of the one already discussed and still up for sale £2395 Photo two is the new one same seller has £1400 Photo three is the USA one at £1256 -
Seems sellers has moved into coins, on completed items , he listed your sixpence 3 times on the same day ( sold once ) also a Henry groat ( not sold ) and another similar Milled Elizabeth Sixpence listed 2 times ( sold once ) . Wonder what the buyer of that one got ?

Last one I had was September 2014 , there was a notice I think before December saying if a printed catalogue was required it must be ordered and paid for .Before that they were freebees for many years past

What are thoughts on this .. would it pass as EF ... Is the damage done at the Mint or after striking There are raised dross marks especially in the Reverse marks which makes me think towards Mint damage ?

WEIGHT OF COINS
numismatist replied to numismatist's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Thanks Rob, Ive never noticed after 50 years into Coins, but found out when I weighed a silver colour penny that I was hoping was not plated ! , then found it was far lighter than 2 old halfpennies , so I googled weights.... -

One of the strange looking 1763 Shillings is now in the next DNW sale with the strange lettering , double striking on the portrait of the king and the strange drapery . Amazing none from these dies appear to have been seen until these two that were discussed turned up -
Thought they didn't grade " damaged " Coins Last two similar 1930's through DNW were GEF £400 and Virtually as struck £350 I would have thought you would be lucky to get 25% to 35% of that asking price from a Dealer ?

Good idea of " Robs " because the fakers do seem to mess up on the edges ( Note- the Gothic Crown letters ) Shame virtually no one ever seems to photo Coin edges when selling coins , suppose its quite difficult to do . -

It seems these days the authorities are just not interested, like they seemed to be in the 1970's when the fake gold £5 pieces flooded the market from Beirut in the Lebanon and UK Coins Dealers were bringing them and other fakes in ,in tubes of 25 . Several top Dealers at the time insisted they were Genuine, and one I knew was about in tears when a dozen or so were seized from him. Quite a few Dealers when down for selling them , but now even some of the largest Auction houses sell them ( as fakes ) so is the law now changed ? -

I think the answer will come if more from this strange die work turn up , they certainly look very doubtful to me and if they are wrong, its quite certain more will show up. Some say the 1763 fakes are casts , which I very much doubt as the Chinese are doing lots of Die struck fakes and thinking if a coin is Die struck its okay and genuine is a very dangerous path to tread, as its caught out many in the past . Things are getting serious in the fake market and my feelings are the BNTA are side stepping the issues by keeping it secret . It doesnt matter how ethical and respectable a dealer is, they can get caught out just like Baldwins and DNW were with the first 1763 Shillings that hit the market. -

Interesting that " jelida " saw that. I think same dies but not the same coin. Ive been watching these since I got caught with one, and looked at many dozens of photos, and never seen these dies, so very very strange and it will be interesting if more show up ! Heres a Genuine nice one...note the lettering and especially the drapery under the Kings chin -
