I've taken a little interest in odd coins... mint errors, brockages, wrong flans, non recurring varieties etc.
Post pictures and we can speculate on error causes.

Please, please tell me this poor sandpapered penny isn't the Gouby X that I'm looking for! Even for 99p I think I'd rather keep an empty slot in my coin tray!
:( As far as I can judge, you are quite correct. That sad and sorry specimen is indeed the Gouby X or hollow neck type. In that condition for wear, worth £30 -£40 based on recent sales. As it is, well £0.99 looks about right if you can live with it.

I can never get over what some people do to coins. In my early restarted collecting days (1995), I was ferreting through a tin of old coins in a local antique dealers only to find to my delight a pratically uncirculated cartwheel tuppence. No edge knocks, no problems, except some idiot had drilled a fuc*ing great hole right through it - aaaaagh!!!
Some lovely coins in bulk lots I've bought have had holes in...
They went straight to scrap.
However sometimes people will still buy them just to fill that gap in the coin tray.

The hollow neck is no longer the infallible predictor we worked out (see long thread in the Varieties sub-forum) : i.e. ALL Gouby X's have a hollow neck, but not all hollow necks are GX's. The I in BRITT is the only cast-iron guarantee.
Is it I to the gap? I can't quite remember the CM study...

My grandfather has passed me 4 x gold £2 coins to have valuated and I must admit, I know absolutley nothing about coins. I will have further details about the coins when I get home but I was wondering if anyone would be able to tell me anything in advance as a rough guide?

Hello Marie,
If they are modern currency issue £2 coins they are worth £2 each. If they are gold or gold proof issues the values will depend on grade and rarity but will be in excess of £300 each even for the common ones.

Oh, yeah. One thing not to do is .. if you happen to have 200 of those very rare Charles Darwin £2 coins (or similar multiple items) .. please don't list them individually!! Save some money and combine them in a multiple listing. Then people can see you have 199 left or whatever and can use the same listing to bid for theirs.

Got my first batch of things, but not in line with the original idea of just coins that were around during my lifetime. I got a batch of farthings - 14 in all - and a few other odds N sods from Colin and I'm glad I did.
To hold those coins that are so familiar and so ingrained in my childhood is almost emotional. They still give me the sense of worth and value that they had in those days.
With regard to the cabinet, many thanks Hussulo, those pre-made ones are seriously nice, but way above my station at the mo, so maybe I'll put one on my wish list. I have in mind a simple tray with square divisions lined in green fluffy stuff, and a perspex hinged lid. I knocked something similar up for my girls when they were small for their collections of fossils so I'll do one of those again.
And as for my sig - I haven't yet but I do really want one
I don't know if it's scientific or just custom, but coin trays usually come lined with 'red fluffy stuff'.
I've seen a lot of blue fluffy stuff around as well.

Yes I'm planning to updated the British coins, I starded with Indian coins there are a lot of British coins inside, and yesterday I put also some Spanish coins inside, when you have nice pictures that I can use mail them to me info@amadiocoins.com I put them into the catalog
Are you looking for pictures of coins only in uncirculated condition with the backgrounds photoshopped out?

It's tempting to bid 20p for the coin and probably win the auction. Postage will cost him 46p (new rates from Monday). Having received the coin demand that he sends you the tea-towel because it's in the photo and therefore you assumed it was included. Otherwise you'll leave very negative feedback! Point made, and he's well out of pocket! A bit of fun too
Pfft... 70p is a twentieth of my current coin fund! As if I have that kind of money!

Don't get me wrong, there is 1 or 2 nice coins on the bay, but the crap seems to be iutweighing the good stuff right now, more scrap Metal than anything
I've always thought that one of the fun things about collecting was shifting through loads of junk to find a bargain coin that satisfyingly fills a gap

Are you planning on making a section on your website for British coins?
I think people here would be co-operative if you wanted a couple of type examples.
Chris Perkins has probably the best book on the value of British coins called Collectors Coins Great Britain.
It's cheap over Amazon.
