  1. Vic for short. Will and Kate's first born won't eventually be king/queen will he/she?
  2. I think that if some of the more established regulars here contributed articles now and again I'd be prepared to pay a sub also.
  3. I wouldn't mind a magazine published through email and printed out by the reader or just read online so long as it had interesting articles. There'd be no printing costs at least!

  6. Sentimental value is another point for keeping "scrap" coins. I've got an 1889 crown that's been in the family for 100 years - it's a miracle it was kept because our family was so poor it was struggling for pennies and shillings let alone having a crown and leaving it lying around! But I'll never sell it even if it's worth £10000. Which it isn't.

    Hi guys

It's a half farthing not a full one sadly
  8. SionGilbey

    Hi guys

Oof.. half farthing. That makes it around £5 (Unless it's in brilliant nick then it could be worth 15 ) However it might have the E over N error in Regina making it worth £50-£100 @2002/3 users http://rapidshare.com/files/449835593/Copy_of_Jims_Coins_1-1.xls This should work with older version of Excel. Try it!

    Hi guys

You need to use the latest version of excel guys! (Or conor you could save it as a 2003 document instead of a 2007/2010) Sorry about the Colin thing, I'm not great with names

    Hi guys

Interesting! With your fractional farthing what does it say? There are three types, a half and a third and a quarter although only the half and the third were issued in 1844. Could you scan: your fractional farthing 1876 halfpenny 1902 halfpenny and any coin that's got good detail especially the older ones with a lot of detail. see: http://www.telecoins.com/scanning.html#PHOTO and crop it down the the coin bit with paint

    Hi guys

Hi Colin! You can get good books in your local bookshop for the prices if you have a lorryload but if you scan them in anyone here will help you with a rough value!

    1827 Penny

You've probably just bought the 595 example, wonder how many emails are going to ensue and will you leave him a negative when the different than the picture coin arrives lol? What would you grade this one at? Ruddy heck that's a hard one. I'd say fine, maybe Good Fine.
  15. Melt price for sovereigns is just less than £200 (just over 8 grams of 22ct gold). No metal melter would scrap anything decent unless he was brain dead. I think I made a bit of an error there! Even so one could still make a profit on almost any 19th Century sov. in VF.

I'm just starting to build a categorised list of bookmarks on my Firefox now (organized into bookmark folders on certain topics) Anyone feel like contributing?
  20. What are your views on old gold sov.s being melted? Their current gold price is £437.50 which could buy you most 19th Century sovereigns in EF and 20 odd years in UNC and make a profit of up to 200%. I believe that modern ones can be melted down as they were only created to sell for profit anyway but even the rare years (like just 20,000 in 1879) would still have a greater worth in gold than it's numismatic value. Your views?

Can you spend sovereigns in a shop?

......you may have to wait some time, their in decline in uk wetlands. ccgb2010 is priced at six guineas, do the same tax rules apply to guineas, were they ever used for currency? It was fairly common for auctions to offer lots in Guineas into the 1970's and I am sure there are still a holdout here and tither that like pricing stuff in Guineas for no other reason than they get an extra 5P for each pound. If you have real Guineas that you would like to let, I will give you quid and five for them and treat them just like money. I'll give you a quid and six
  22. What about dealers who melt any old copper/silver that they get without checking properly and miss a rare variety or something like that?

Microsoft Excel - How to show pics

I agree that if I had a more specialist smaller collection I would use excel but I am covering a pretty wide area so Access seems the best choice. Also I haven't really researched into varieties yet.
  24. Coin News sounds alright... however I'm not spending £30 which I could spend on coins on a magazine that isn't that good... Can you buy individual issues? How much?
