  1. Now you got me wondering Pete...because that is the same coin, isn't it! I am 83 years old...what do you expect! LOL...
  2. Richard, Pete, Here is the 1870 I sold in 2013.
  3. Not my picture Pete. I was commenting on someone else's pic. I'll see if I can find my pic. It has been a few years back, when I sold it.
  4. Blakey, That "Dot" is footnoted in Freeman's Book on page 74, footnote #16. Michael told me one time that he did not assign #'s to items he had not actually seen and verified, instead he made a footnote listing only.
  5. I sold one just like that, I believe it was to Tony Crocker. It has the large dot below the "Y" in penny.
  6. Mike, That looks like a "S" over a "8"...really strange.

Had a field day on e bay......

I have two of the 1946's. One has a "'hyphen" like the one shown above, and one has a perfectly round "dot".
  8. They're a bloody shambles and a disgrace. The lot of them. It sounds like you are talking about our Congress Mike!
  9. Here is one exactly like your example, on sale now on EBAY. https://www.ebay.com/itm/EXTREMELY-RARE-1862-A-HALFPENNY-MINTMARK-A-BRITISH-COIN-FROM-VICTORIA-FINE/202327165980?_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIM.MBE%26ao
  10. Some references list two varieties of the "A" to the left of the lighthouse. The F289A (smaller A) and the F290A (Larger A). Freeman only lists the 290A and also lists it as unbarred. My example is the larger "A" closer to the rim, and is unbarred (F290A). I think Gary's example is a smaller "A" and is closer to the LH. I do not know if Gary's example is barred or not. Here is my example.
  11. That's the tax you should be complaining about, and I'd join you. I am not complaining about it because I don't have to pay it! However whatever you call it, VAT / Tariff / Import Duty / Extra Duty / Import Duty / Excise Tax...it is still a tariff(Tax) on you, that I do not have to pay on goods coming from the UK to the USA, but you do have to pay on goods coming from the USA to the UK. I have even had client leave a coin at the UK Post office rather than pay the VAT tax. LOL...
  12. I wouldn't say that VAT is a tariff, as there are only three rates Rates have nothing to do with if it is a tariff or not, and that is what they (UK Govt) want you to think and say..."that's not a tariff" It's the same as your ?Purchase Tax ?Sales Tax Your VAT is a lot different than our sales tax. If sales tax was the same, we would have to pay tax on incoming goods from the UK (coins, etc.), and we do not, but you do, because of your tax (a tariff) on goods coming from another country.
  13. In a email conversation I had with Michael Freeman he stated the following with regard to issuing Freeman numbers versus Footnotes. I had a firm rule that I would never include in my catalogue any coin unless I myself had actually examined one. and If I were to write the book again, I would still not assign a catalogue number to any "dot" variety; but would still be consistent, and mention it in a footnote. I have a feeling he must have examined the 1897 dot however.
  14. We want free trade with China, but they don't reciprocate. As for Great Britain, the USA does have mostly free trade, it is the Brits that add a tariff on good received (VAT), which discourages free trade with the USA. When you send me something from the UK, we do not have to pay a tariff (tax), it is just a net sale. So in effect we receive free trade from Britain, but the British tag their own people for doing business with us.
  15. Josie, You forgot the phillipines (sp) unlike the United Kingdom, Canada and Australia, they were once a USA Possession, after the Spanish American War. (1898).
  16. Josie, That is a excellent idea...free trade and movement between The USA and the United Kingdom. Our countries have been friends since 1814, it seems to me it would be a good fit.

    Books Section

I prefer the paperback version, though it does take up lots of room on your bookshelf. I have 3 volumes from 1700 to the current. Beginning the 36th edition they included a CD.

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

Mike, a lot of bidders see that type of thing while watching, and making last second bids on ebay. Research has shown it is caused by too much wine! LOL...
  24. Thanks Dave. Those birthdays just keep coming...Ha,Ha!
