    Good point Bernie. I use my QX5 with a older version of windows on a laptop. I haven't tried it on my larger system, though I think there are upgraded drivers available. I know the QX7 does have the 8/10 compatability, I just haven't seen a need to up grade.

    I bought the andonstar first, and wasn't happy with them.

    Digital Blue QX5 is the best microscope I have ever found. I have two differant models of the Andonstar, and the QX5 is by far better than either one! They started selling the QX5 in Toys'r"Us, and later, it was sold to a new company that markets it now. Originally it costs $49.95, but now on eBay they sell up to about $70.00 (more or less). There is also a newer QX7 available, but I haven't tried it.

    You are right about 'Centisles'. He has been the topic of conversation on this Forum many times. Stay away...he is bad medicine!

    The variety doesn't go away just because it isn't marked on the slab. -True, but I was just demonstrating the lack detail by the slabbing companies. I bought an MS65 1887 sixpence R/V misattributed by PCGS as a shilling with no error. Broke it out of the slab, sent it to NGC from whence it came back properly attributed and MS66. Big win! - This happens all the time. Many already slabbed coins are re-submitted in an effort to get a better grade. Its called upgrading!

    You are right about the mistakes made on varieties. I sent a 1922/27 Penny in for slabbing (with variety documentation) and it came back slabbed as 1922 Great Britain Penny. The value dropped quite a bit! Ha,Ha.

    There is also a really nice 1844 Farthing (probably EF or better) for 495. but it is also covered with "green." Such a shame! :-)

    David, I have always thought it might have been a modified "5", to make it pass as a 3, when a 3 punch was not available.

    Below is a reference from Gouby's Book. Notice the Open 3 has a spike at the top left of the 3...

    The thing I noticed from the start about the open 3 on the ebay coin, was that it had a flat (left) downward projection for the top of the 3, while the real open 3 coin has a "spiked" projection. Also, on the ebay coin, the middle stroke of the 3 points points to below the bottom of the 6, while the real open 3 coin has the middle stroke of the 3 pointing to the middle of the lower half of the 6. I do not believe the ebay coin is a 1863 open 3. jmho...

    Excellant example Richard. I was watching that one also. I was surprised when he lowered the price, and relisted it from 20k ($)to 10k...seemed a little odd. Your coin is the best I have ever seen, of that overdate. Great purchase!
