Seeing as I cant post in the items for sale because of the Forbidden Error thing, the cabinet pictured in my 6th September 2023 post is now going for sale. Spec below:
Mascle 14 tray
4 x 28mm
5 x 35mm
4 x 41mm
1 x 50mm
Green felts
Looking for £300 plus delivery. I'll use parcel force or similar. Just checking to see if anyone's interested before I decide whether to punt on ebay or auction.
Please DM if interested.
Kip.

I gave them a call last week to say it looked wrong, but there was noone in the department to talk to so I just left a message. Obviously nothing been done on it, so caveat emptor I suppose.

Does this one look wrong to you?

Forbidden error when trying to post in items for sale

Perhaps even more so in today's money

Exactly that. It would cost me over £5k a year in train fares, and I only live about 20 minutes from St Pancras on a fast train. Perhaps it's a low offer to try and entice a young, enthusiastic person with a genuine interest in coins that would be excited about the job enough to stay for that kind of money, rather than someone who just wanted the money.

Morning all,
On my last visit to Baldwins I heard that they were taking on a new junior numismatist. Not that I was looking for a job, but out of interest I had a nose around. It looks like minimum wage. Seems a bit low ball to me, certainly in London and expecting someone to commute.

Yuletide felicitations to everyone. I hope 2025 is a happier and healthier year for all, and that we all manage to find a little unnoticed gem tucked away in an auction catalogue somewhere.

It was probably unsold. If you want it, likely as not available at the low estimate if you email them.

I noticed the VERY nice Cope I 1849 Penny will be up for bid at Heritage soon. That is a wonderful coin....I have an MS63 from Glens in the old days that is not quite as nice....
I think Atlas picked up a number of his coins in the last auction and haven't been able to move them on at the mark up they were trying to get. Back to auction they go.

I just received this reply from CC, and they are now calling it a ‘replica’ rather than ‘restrike’. They really should have pulled it, to sell it does not enhance their reputation.
“Thank you for brining this to my attention. This coin was supposed to be catalogued as a replica example and the description has now been updated.Thank you again”So you could have whole auctions of Chinese replicas? Idiocy. And much cheaper on Aliexpress.JerryI had exactly the same reply. I should imagine there'll be a few of these being sent out.

I messaged the coin cabinet when I saw it, but as yet had no reply either. I'm sure I had an email from them a while back detailing some business changes, but can't find it now. Perhaps there's new staff etc.

Perfect. Thank you. 👍

Morning,
I saw this yesterday and wondered what your thoughts on it are. I don't know much about these George III coins at all with so many patterns etc, but there's so much here that looks wrong to me that I wanted to see what you thought?

It's going at NAC

Taking place the 2nd or 3rd December I believe.

I didn't go and view it as it wasn't that dear, and when I got it it was given a cursory look over and just put in the cabinet. Only now that I'm selling most of what I have is everything being given a thorough looking at. Oh well, caveat emptor as they say.

All the way around the bust outline? Would've thought Baldwins would have picked up on that and mentioned it at least.
-
Yes, I know, sorry, I wasn't clear. When you look at the reverse, the outline of Victoria on the obverse can be seen quite easily, ghosting if you will, which seems to be highlighted more where these parallel lines appear. The lines on the obverse image above are all vertical, as are those on the reverse, and fill the fields on both sides, but there is still a great deal of lustre remaining.

Thanks both.
Whilst on the subject of 1898's, I bought this other one at auction last year, described as 'prooflike'. The fields look quite hairlined, particularly when you look at the outline of Victoria on the reverse, similarly on the obverse. They all look to run in the same direction and not over the legends/bust, so could this possibly be just die polishing or something else? They are crystal clear with an illluminated loupe, but very hard to capture on a mobile.
