Halfpenny ID check

Do you remember the one that Jon posted. Had that Crown stamped into it. That matches the above coin. No A die crack and a huge crack under chin. Page 18 in this thread. -

There's some photos on page 4 or 5 of this thread Larry. Die crack through the A of Victoria. Had a quick look to see if Dr Nicholson had one in his collection. Couldn't see one but what a collection that was. Don't think he shopped on eBay. Good luck with your coins by the way. -
Maundy money started with Charles II back in 1662, when he gave out a four penny, threepenny, twopenny and one penny coin to each individual. So not Elizabeth I. For some reason, I googled it a while back. I'm not intelligent enough to do links and techy stuff but Google is very helpful with this one. Bob.

1902 halfpenny. Low tide. eBay auction win. £56.

Believe me. It won't. You now have another Master.😁

I agree. I'm a member of a halfpenny group. Very little to no discussion. More a platform to show beautiful coins.(Which is informative in its own right. I'm not knocking it.) Which is a shame really, because there is a wealth of knowledge amongst some of the bigger name members.

Great coin there Paddy. Are you thinking of purchasing? I think that this is the direction that I'm about to travel next. I love the history behind these coins. Contemporary counterfeit halfpenny and farthing families. By Jeff Rock and Others. A study of contemporary counterfeiters and the coins that can be attributed to each individual forger. Something that I've been meaning to purchase for a while now. I've often wondered if this thread would develope to encompass other monarchs. Pleased to see that it has. -
has there been a software change?

Panic over. Used the age old remedy of turning my phone off and restarted it. All working fine again now. No. It's http 500 error again -

Something is not working for me. When signed out, I can view the Halfpenny ID thread. When signed in, I can't. Shows HTTP 500 error. I can access this page when signed in. I've deleted everything that I can find on my phone, so must be something I've not done correctly. You may need to talk me thru it as a 5yr old child. I'm not very tech savvy. Thanks. -

Thanks Tom and Paddy for confirming what I saw. Dracott 2004. This pairing, proof only. 2021, variety confirmed. Would this be for the proof coin only, or has a circulation coin be found prior to mine? I'm guessing mine is a circulation coin and not a poorly looked after proof. Await Gary, Richard, Bernie and Martin's views. -

Thanks for the reply Paddy. I thought I was alone. Reverse A* A# ( some use star, some hash) is the wider date spacing, most noticeable between the 6 and the 0. On reverse A, the 6 and 0 are closer and the zero lower. Another identifier for reverse A*# is the lack of flag pole on the ship, which this has (or hasn't). The full reverse is shown in my post just before Copper 123 post, immediately above. -

The above 1860 arrived today. I'm fairly confident that it is 1* + A*. No tie knot and wide date. The Dracott 2004 article lists this pairing as proof only known. His 2021 update merely says variety confirmed. Opinions and comments welcome. I've probably got it wrong. 😁 -

The seller provided 22 photos. The above 2 were enhanced to show the detail. This one is a true to life photo, which I think shows the lack of tie knot more clearly. -

I'm getting the same message too, when typing in a page number. Using android mobile and Google. Not much help I know, but at least you're not alone. -

Totally agree. My 1878, 14+N halfpenny doesn't have a Freeman number. Does it really need one? It is what it is and can be identified as such.

My copy has pretty much disintegrated, to the point where the halfpenny section has become an independent volume. Failing a complete copy being available here, I'm happy to send you the penny and farthing sections, if they are of interest. You can return them when you obtain a complete copy. Not ideal I know, but a stop gap for you perhaps. Bob.

I'd very much like to own one of those, if we're talking the same 1956....
