  1. Keep it together Secret, there's always a light and usually not a train coming the other way. It's nothing new......
  2. Agree, does seem a strange choice of coin to copy though there are differences with Wayne’s coin don’t you think?
  3. Looks like different dies so probably not a restrike. What's the weight? Should be spot on 19g
  4. There are differences in the ear which look rather odd along with the double strike at nose and lip. Looks dubious IMO.
  5. I just thought about the start of that classic Abbott and Costello sketch, Buck Privates. Shady street vendor Bud asks his shill Lou how much money he has, "I have in the vicinity of twenty-eight dollars, in the vicinity", Costello replies, "but in the neighbourhood, I got three bucks. And when you smoooooooth it all out, I got a dollar".
  6. What a lovely piece👍🏽 I wouldn’t have gone past the lemon juice stage myself, but still looks great all buffed up. Well done.

    Proof there is no god

If madness is defined as a mental disorder where a person is unable to comprehend present circumstances then I think this applies to the majority of politicians and indeed to most of the general population. This is clearly demonstrated by him being elected in the first place.😂

    Commonwealth 'Overdates'

The only time I can see Simon's hand is in the competition pieces of 1651. Even 'fine work' pieces dated 1651 are of a much lower standard and probably, as you point out, cut by the under-gravers. Upon re-reading Oman it is now clear to me that he is referring to reproducing the breeches design for the 1651 milled pieces. Simon probably, therefore, had little or no involvement with the original 1649 engraving, maybe assisting only in helping to sketch out a design (?). Brooke then is also correct, in referring to the 1649 pieces, by stating that they were indeed the work of the under-gravers. Clear now, thanks👍

    Commonwealth 'Overdates'

Not strictly related to the topic at hand but still a question related to the Commonwealth coinage however after the appointment of Simon. Brooke, in English Coins, mentions that the breeches coinage was probably the work of under-gravers East and Burgh whereas Oman, in the Coinage of England, states "... Simon, the talented engraver to the mint, must have chafed sadly at the bald design that he was directed to reproduce." Considering that both books were published within a year of each other, and by such learned scholars, I find it strange that they held such varying opinions. Any thoughts?

only Rod Serling could make sense of all this...
  13. Phew, I just looked it up, it’s a palm. It looks very triffidesque to the uninitiated. Found this by chance, en route Should read One touch (without protection) can induce nine months of intense reoccurring throbbing pain.

    EBAY SCAM

Looks like SW Coins are no more. Some poor Ebay feedback toward the end of 2019 and no longer a registered user. His website is no longer functioning and Company accounts confirmation is overdue. His wife also resigned as director end of 2019. He did have the odd, often overpriced, item of interest.
  16. Should be CGS85 (in very minor areas). Quality assurance shouldn't be tainted by vested interests. It doesn't seem like much change since 2015. http://www.predecimal.com/forum/topic/9818-shocking-experience-from-cgs-coin-grading-services-forum-advice-pl/ except for marital status, that is.

  19. Good tune. One of the founders of May Blitz was Terry Poole, ex-Bakerloo, who apparently later joined Vinegar Joe. Strangely though, I can't find mention of him in lists of former VJ members, only Steve York, and Nick South. I presume he didn't stay long.

  21. Yes, I believe in the West Indies he’s referred to as the battyman and he’s responsible for getting the batter out.
  22. I'll be interested to see how Rowley Butters' (JP Morgan) Reddite Crown does at Heritage Auctions. It hammered at £65k in September last year and is now up for sale again, currently around the $30k mark. It went for £25k in 2008. Shame it has had such a hard life, lovely coin otherwise, and rarer than the Petition Crown.
